Horse speed

I've been playing this beautiful game for a short time and I'm a little surprised that horses run much slower than I can run myself. Am I doing something wrong, does it take a while to train or is there a trick?

You managed to get the worst horse ever if it's slower than you. Check horse traits and speed stat. You can get wild horses in the 900+ speed range with some luck (and high level tames). 1000+ speed is luck, breeding, luck, training, luck, proper feeding, and luck. If you're on new era servers you can buy 1000+ speed on the market fairly cheap (20k ish). You can get 1100+ if you're willing to pay 80k or so.

Sounds like you tamed a low level horse probably with bad traits and weaknesses. Try another one.
