Trying to get into this game but the controls are horrendous
I've had this game for awhile, but every time I come back to it I remember why I never last. The controls are so incredibly bad. There's controls for driving a vehicle, and controls for being on foot. For some reason it tries to use both at the same time. If i'm in a vehicle the controls for being on foot shouldn't apply, and vice versa. But for the life of me I can't get the controls adjusted so that my movement keys work for both.

I'm now trying to drive a bus, it gave me a route that led to nothing. An empty parking lot. I left and navigation led me back to the bus top, where, again, nothing is happening.

Is this game the king for having fake positive reviews, or am I just missing basic obvious things? Because not a thing works properly or makes any sense and all of it should be straight forward.

Every single time. As in 100 percent of the time, when I choose a route it says that if I want to change my route (I didn't even have one selected yet) I have to go to a bus stop and "stop" my route. Literally wtf is this game? I haven't even picked a route yet, I'm sitting in the parking lot of the bus terminal. This is the most unnecessarily complicated game I've ever played. Absolutely not one single thing is intuitive or logical.

What does this even mean? I don't know what control input you use but with a controller you walk around and drive with the same stick.

You have to stop at the bus stop, then open your doors to let passenger in and out (if there are any at the bus stop or passengers waiting).

When you get in a bus, you get the option to take a route, or dismiss a route. When you are on an active route, you have to stop at a bus stop to stop the route because you have to let passengers out of your bus. If you get out of a bus that is on an active route and then get back in the same bus the route is still active.

My move back key for walking around is the same key as braking while driving a vehicle. So when I want to backup the vehicle, it brakes instead. I've never run into this issue with a game in my life, so I have no clue what the solution is. Whether you're driving or on foot all movement keys should work, even conflicting keys, since you can't walk and drive at the same time.
Brakes are used to reverse if one of the reverse assist modes is enabled. If not, reverse gear uses the throttle like normal. As written, you're complaining about vehicles braking while pressing the brake key. This, of course, is completely normal, and has no logical connection to walking controls, so nobody will be able to understand what you're talking about.
Like any other game, you can go to the options menu and go to controls and reassign any action to any key. I don't understand why there's this huge post complaining about something you could have fixed in a fraction of the time it took you to complain about it here.

Just as I don't understand how you read the post and failed to comprehend that I obviously already did this.

Do you honestly believe that any PC gamer in the world doesn't understand what keybinds are, or how to change them? I specifically state in my initial post "I can't get the controls adjusted to get this to work", which very clearly means I've been changing them.

Mind blowing that you felt as though you made a good point here. You wasted everyone's time with your post, which I feel it's important to mention since you foolishly decided to accuse me of that very thing. Don't do the millennial thing where you're obsessed with telling someone they're wrong about something, so you jump right to that without any effort whatsoever in COMPREHENDING what you're actually responding to.

Read, comprehend, respond. You very clearly skipped over a step.

There were two issues.

1. I was choosing "keyboard and mouse" in the control settings. I did this because I use right mouse button to move forward in games. So, to drive, I do use keyboard and mouse, so it seemed obvious that was the option I should select. But that option has you steer the vehicle with your mouse which isn't made clear, so the only other option was keyboard only.

2. When I chose keyboard my keybinds (can you believe I know how to use them!!!! such a secret feature!!!!!) wouldn't save. There is no "apply" button on the (super secret) keybind screen, and every time I'd change my binds to what I wanted, nothing would save.

I kept trying, and eventually, it did save. I have no clue why on that particular attempt it saved as I did nothing different, but I'm just happy it did. Mostly it wouldn't let me unbind the hand brake. I'd delete the bind for that and over and over again it would immediately re-enable, until one time where it just didn't.

So very clearly a bug exists with saving binds, and that's why most studios put an "apply" button here. I tried probably 15+ times before the game finally saved my updated binds.

its clearly not fake positive reviews.. this game is really fun once you get past any learning curves.

But I guess its not for everyone. I hope you give it some time before bailing.

Have fun and drive safe :0

To be clear, you're in the wrong here and this is entirely user error. You brought your frankly weird keybind preferences here expecting to be catered to. No one uses M1 to move forward in games. You're obviously either eldery or have some sort of accessibility need. I could *almost* see the validity of complaining if you couldn't change the controls to meet your frivolous needs, but you can, so your full on meltdown is unnecessary. Claiming to be a PC gamer and then failing (refusing really) to understand the simple and intuitive UI of this game is astounding. Not understanding that you have to stop at a BUS STOP while driving a BUS in order to drop off your BUS PASSENGERS is baffling. Apparently in Moses Land you can commandeer public transport at your whim, travelers be darned. You said yourself that you might just be missing basic things. When people pointed out that you were in fact missing basic things, you got upset. You admitted that the issue was you choosing the incorrect control scheme after proclaiming that conflicting controls should just work. You cried "millennial" when the notion of you not understanding something was mentioned. This is boomer behavior.

Read, comprehend, respond. You very clearly skipped over all 3 steps.
