the game randomly started to use my mouse to steer right and left i tried pressing the reset button for the settings but that did not work

What do you normally use for steering? Keyboard? Or wheel or controller?

hmmm... only two things I can think of

Have you tried clicking the control input type to something like gamepad and then back to keyboard and mouse in options > controls > driving?

I don't see anything about mouse steering in the assists, and only a sensitivity entry in the basic config file.. I guess you could make a backup of your save and config folder ( X:\Users\You\AppData\Local\MotorTown ) and then after making a backup copy, deleting the files in X:\Users\You\AppData\Local\MotorTown\Saved\Config\Windows and then starting the game to see if it defaults back to fresh config control scheme.

But that's just me guessing.

For most specialized help you could try the Discord, dev himself looks there too. The link is stickied above on the board here.
