whats the point of playing in a server?
Honest question here, was super excited to join a server and got boomed.

I started playing alone and loved the game, then in a private server with a few friends and loved it even more.

After that, I was really exited to jump into a server with more people, but most/all of them have NPCs disabled (meh), but also company NPCs disabled. So my dream of seeing multiple companies compete over jobs, a map full of company vehicles, etc. where shattered.

This left me wondering, whats the point of playing in a server?? is a private server with friends just better??

I get disabling random NPCs, but disabling company. If all I'm going to do is my own runs, what's the point of playing on a server??

The main interest is being chased (and overtaken) by a drunk russian driving a 75 t Atlas dump @ 130 kph.

Fun?

If you had 50-75 people all with AI company drivers running around it would not only cause massive traffic jams (AI not best drivers), it would bog down the servers FPS.

I have played over 325hrs so far and prob 300 on an online server. I have NO friends that play this game, but I have met a bunch of cool folks (and some not so cool) who have a great time helping each other out.. doing Coal runs, or tow jobs together. RP police check points and bank robberies... Car meets, events (Races, on and off road).

Yea, some folks are trolls who just want attention, but the admins do a good job or keeping them in check.

I dont know.. for me, having a living breathing city with others driving around is fun.

I also like to help new players, See a new guy running trash in a trash truck, I jump on the back and start loading trash for them. Someone ran out of gas or flipped, I grab my wrecker and go help them out.

dunno.. for me, its fun.

On my server, "North's Money Pit", we allow company/corp vehicles, but please use them to actually fill up a supply chain, don't just put them out for the sake of running them. The reason many servers don't allow the use of them is that they add onto the workload for the server and introduce more lag.
Also let's not forget that a lot of people helps in-game industry. Thus factories are producing goods and then there's something interesting to deliver! Take steel mill products for example: it is extremely hard to organize constant supply of all components alone, even having 10 AI vehicles in the company.
