Same way.

Speaking of the rollback: how do you operate the winch on this thing? The control panel has throttle and bed controls, but no way to control the winch, unless I'm missing something

You have to click on the winch directly, grab the hook, attach it, then click on the winch again and grab the winch controller. You can use the winch controller while inside a vehicle if you want to steer the car onto the flatbed. You then click on the winch again and choose cut the cable when you want to disconnect it.

This is also how winches you attach to the front of a truck work.
How do you stop cars getting absolutely annihilated on the back of the rollback? Doesn't matter what I do they seem to get destroyed, with the regular tow vehicle it doesn't happen

It should be easier to keep car condition from dropping on the rollback then using other tow vehicles. If you have them too far forward they will bounce the front end on the winch, causing damage, so strap them down further back on the deck. You may also need to change springs or dampers if the truck is doing too much bouncing with a car on the back.

I regularly transport vehicles with 0% damage on the rollback, and most damage occurs while loading and unloading if I am not careful, so it can be done.

Thank you, I must have missed that on my first try.
