What's the point of buying trailers?
So you can buy trailers, but why? Do you earn more money per delivery, similar to when you own your own truck? It's quite a lot of money for just so you can customise / spawn your trailer wherever.

Your AI drivers can use them to ①supply the primitive production chain faster.②deliver food faster to make you town effect bonus. You can use them to solve problems on production chain with one run and will cover a long time( like the fuel shortage in concrete factory), and the money is okay. The truck company system and production chain make the time of each run more important. For example, if you deliver milk to diary factory, 40 or more units of milk delivered at once will enable the factory produce more cheese boxes other than cheese pallets. You might know that cheese boxes contains way more payment with less cargo space.

I would say there are two main reasons:

1) Setups. You can tune the suspension to make them more stable or distribute weight amongst the trailer's axles more easily, and paint them to match your semi truck

and

2) Being able to spawn it at locations which there is no trailer spawner, like the Sanho Oil refinery.
