[Known Bug] Cannot steer with Keyboard/Controller

Solution 1: You need to click 'Gamepad' at the Controller Setting to use Controller as Steering

Solution 2: Some times Assist setting gets broken(like moving to Early Access version from Demo), click the 'Reset to default' button at the Assist Options to fix this

whats the proper way so players dont panic and freak out especially the mentally disabled to set up a steering wheel that has no clutch/no shifter/not a logitech or thrustmaster,but the cheap kinds that work on pc for xbox 360 etc,cuz no matter what ive tried today,it will program the buttons but when i get in the car the steering wheel wont move but it makes noise/lights work,so is a certain way in the game options or is it a steam issue like ATS has that if the steam input for controllers is not a certain way it wont work,ive tried all settings and no matter what i try it doesnt respond it was fine last night now its not working so am i not doing it right or is it a setting,or the beta options cuz if i dont use the beta it works fine when i try the beta im suddenly stuck so whats going on and why is this so difficult for me be disabled to get it working the 1st try where i dont get stuck and panic cuz i cant get it and cant troubleshoot it where im made fun of cuz of my disability and lack of knowedge of how these things work when im not allowed credit cards or paypal to upgrade and get decent devices that work with no issues

I have downloaded the demo, and my Saitek P2500 "Rumble" gamepad won't work when I'm in the car. I have clicked on "Gamepad" in the controls menu, and I have checked in Windows that the device is working properly. If I download and pay for the game, will the gamepad then work, or will it be the same as the demo?

I got an issue, when using pickup I parked in the southern city on a parking lot. I used tab menu and the pickup was rolling backwards. I pressed keys to stop. but game hangs on and isnt reacting anymore. game goes forward, infront of me cars, trucks and busses are driving arround and people move. but no keys are reacting.

Yeah, controllers don't work until configuration settings is set to "Gamepad". I thought this was a feature but, after reading this post from the actual dev, It is actually a bug.

There are no instructions at all. I can't get in the car. The right trigger makes the car accelerate anyway, and there's no way to steer. This is useless.

Even when I follow the above instructions my wire-connected PS4 and PS5 controllers don't function. They do function in other games. Is this going to be fixed?

I am trying to use a wired NSW controller for this game, it shows up as unknown in the devices list, and none of the buttons work, it works for other games, and my cousin uses an Xbox controller without issue. I have tried resetting the controls and changing it to game-pad but nothing is working.

Have you selected the "Controller" tab rather than keyboard or mouse and keyboard in the control settings themselves? It's a common mistake I make when switching between control schemes, if you forget to switch back, gas/brakes work but steering doesn't and it's confusing lol

all you need to do is hit esc and when ur in the menu hit esc again I hope this helps somone

I just got this yesterday and found that the default controller dead zone was way too large such that the wheels didn't turn at all until I reduced it to 10% to match the UI dead zone
