Are Bus Companies Profitable?
I have one bus on a route, but it's running at a loss, so I don't whether or not I should change the route it's on or just sell the bus completely?

I would change your route, I have the school bus running on Seo-Gui-Po Downtown and its 1500 profit from 30min game play. You'll lose 50% of what you paid for the vehicle so i dont recommend selling it, keep it and use it yourself for exp. They are a slow burner but if you have the cash to buy multiple vehicles and they are sitting doing nothing while you use others then they may aswel run in the back ground a get a little cash for you. Also when you pick your route look at how many ppl are waiting at the stops its going to.

I do think you have to pay attention to the bus service after some time passes as since starting to write this comment I've noticed all my stops on the run have no passengers waiting. Hope some of this helps.

.......................................running cost per 10 mins.....seats.....running cost per seat
vw volkswagen bus 40k ae-wol ....................28.............8.....................................3.50***
liliput bus 60k gu-jwa.......................................127...........11..................................11.54
school bus 100k gu-jwa..................................200..........27.....................................7.48
air city bus 120k gu-jwa.....................................60..........28.....................................2.14
dumbi 130k gu-jwa ?
greyhound cheetah 200k gu-jwa ?

can't see seat capacity anywhere until you buy the bus
can't see running cost anywhere until put it in a route

you want the lowest running cost per seat

idk yet but it looks like the dumbi and greyhounds are probably even lower
......................................................................................................................................................
***ps... i take it back i thought running cost was a fixed number but it changes as
you use the bus... i think in general the higher level the bus the better the running costs are going to be

The company doesn't make money so it's useless I drive it for a few hours and I'm still in the loss numbers, + repair another loss I'm just losing money , it's better to do truck work, inefficient company, something to earn is almost impossible, and the fee is not much either, I ride Olle Ring and I'm still in the negative,

With custom routes and large capacity buses like the Cheetah-Mk 1, it is possible to make 10k in profit every 30 min cycle as long as you keep them in good condition. I have one custom route for each major city servicing all the stops in and around, two routes going around the circumference island (one in the opposite direction), and one massive route the services all the stops that weren't serviced otherwise. For the cities I use Air-City buses, and all the others I use Cheetahs.

Sounds like hauling live fish is the only decent job in the game... Or rather the least worst.

Running containers is pretty good too. Not from the port though, from the other depot on the west side of the island.

I used to haul some to the toy factory and then some to the "Santa's Cabin", but sadly those jobs are gone (at least the last time I tried the toy factory route, it wasn't anything special)
Could it be something changed with this update and you can finally make more than 18k a run with proper trucking now?
Even the logging job was pretty disappointing, considering you need to pull some 30t over the worst roads possible.

Sadly that's where it tops out. I was grinding to get the 10 000 km achievement, so I didn't really mind. I would load up at the depot and leave it on auto pilot and go do something else for 10 mins then check back. Made enough to retire that way, but it took a while.
Back to topic (Are Bus Companies Profitable?) please. ;-)

Yes but it takes a lot of start up costs and planning, as well as time for the bonuses to kick in.

And the answer to the original question pretty much boils down to a "no"

That's not true. Custom bus routes can give you a nice profit
as long as you're not to lazy to invest a bit of time and the
standard routes gain some profit, too, as long as you know
which bus to use on which route.

Conclusion:

A bus company makes profit when you do your "homework".

Drive safe and take care.

Can you earn more per the same amount of time than while being a mere live fish hauler?
