I personally would say so. For a 10-15 hour game on sale at the moment, you get a game of tragedy, death, and redemption with boss fights that are challenging, but not crazy hard. Don't think it's souls like, cause it provides a fair difficulty unlike souls like games that will require you to think quickly on your feet during boss fights that can be insanely punishing and rage inducing. I generally don't play metroidvania games, but this game along with the Ori games made me love metroidvania titles even more.

for what it's worth I liked it much more than S&S for various reasons, as long as you like the genre and go in expecting an actual metroidvania and not just a 2d dark souls you'll have fun. Game itself is not great but not terrible. Music is very good.

This is a 2D hack n slash metroidvania with little to no dark soul elements(unless you count the crapsack world setting, healing prays and abomination bosses and enemies as ones).
It's a masterpiece and better than Salt and Sanctuary IMO.
Yes it's totally worth it,the game is DRM free,that mean you can run it without Steam running, you can still get steam achievements even if you play the game without steam and sync with steam later.

If you haven't bought it when it's on sale mate ya best do. It's a great game more and not really a souls-like it is a metroidvania style game. You go through zones, get stuff, then go back through those zones to open pathways ya missed until you reach the ultimate goal. When you die there's no collecting what you left behind you simply try try again.

Bloodstained is almost a completely different beast, it has more going for it but also more questionable design decisions. I put it on hold a while ago and still never found the will to finish it.

i feel like Bloodstained is the worst game of the 2, especially the soundtracks. Each to their own i guess.

I also agree, for me it's mostly the level design that feels very bad.

Game has extremes in both directions. Great art, great music, good storytelling. And then randomly the enemy placement/level design cause awful pacing and the enemy animations randomly look like they're from a flash game.

This is still better than most similar games. Salt and sanctuary sucks, is totally bs cheap in place of being actually hard, and the art even looks like crap at the same time.
