Amazing game, but can't find what the SP Gauge does anywhere.

SP Gauge is unlocked with an ability 1/3 or 1/4 way through the game. After the 3rd or 4th boss iirc. Up + Attack with main skill will consume the SP gauge and dish out sizable damage either on land or air.
