(this could be wishful thinking on my part)
...honestly, I was thinking the same thing. I know that the trailers were mocked up, probably with some kind of developer console, but I couldn't help but notice that in some of the gameplay, Lily appears to have a few boss wins under her belt- like say, Garrod's or Eleine's attacks, even though her level appears to be 2. Could it be possible to beat the game without actually killing that many monsters?
Hell, the first things you fight don't even really do anything except stay in place and fold their skeletal hands together, as if in prayer. I kinda felt bad about killing them.
Side note: it feels like everything scales up when you kill a boss too? I stopped one tapping a lot of mobs after 2 boss kills.
What is leveling like in this game? A sinister black aura and a terrifying groan like something monstrous is being awoken.
If I correctly understand 幻想乐园 one of the posters above "attack" in the stats menu may be mistranslated and could instead be translated as "aggression" instead.
Leveling is a bad thing in this game and likely indicates a corrosion of Lily's gentle spirit hence more damage. She is holding herself back less and less as her level increases.
Leveling up increases your damage by 2. So at max corruption level of 100, you deal an extra 200 damage.
It does not effect the story, as only a hidden item does.
You unlock two items that either display the fully corrupted form, or the fully pure form after finishing the required endings.
