There are no secrets to the X attack, you just have to learn the timing.
Here's my tips, keep in mind my playstyle is aggressive: the less time the boss is alive the less time I have to ♥♥♥♥ up.
My strategy was: use one loadout of spirits that allowed me to attack while keeping mobile, and the other set to DPS him while he was stunned. (Sword, Tornado, Shield | Mace, Ball and Chain, Arrows)
Ulv has low stun resistance, and once he is stunned, he takes a while to come back up, so unless you really have to heal, use this chance to damage him.
Another suggestion is stay on the ground, and close to him, most of his attacks can't be dodged if you're mid-air and far away.
I got by the first phase quickly by doing chip damage with the umbral knight and floral sorceress right after dodging one of his attacks. Once he's stunned just spam him down with all you have.
If you get the crown relic, it will allow you to stun enemies faster.
It's located on the wall, right above the entrance to the castle but you need to drop down from the room above to get it.
My spirits were:
Team 1: Umbral knight (X) Elaine (Y) and Headless Knight (B)
Team 2: Silva (X) Siegrid (Y) And Fallen Guardian (B)
The real difficulty in this fight is how hard he hits and the fact he doesnt stop moving, he really forces you to learn his timing if you want to have a chance.
