Permanent Exhaustion?
So I'm playing the demo (Training Mission 4) and my three infantry squads plus the HQ squad have had relatively little to do except for two very brief skirmishes and then walking slowly through the woods. I've sat them on their butts for a good ten minutes and they're still "Exhausted." What gives? Is there a special "rest" command that I'm not finding, or something? I can't assault the buildings with exhausted troops!

That does seem odd. All that is required to recover from exhausted is not moving for a while. 10 minutes should have been enough. What kind of move command(s) were they following? Slow is crawling - which is very tiring. Hunt is also quite tiring. Either of those would have made your men exhausted after a while but I would have though 10min of not moving would have allowed them to recover.

Just went back and tested it again from my saved game. Yep, they literally laid on the ground for ten minutes and did not shift from "Exhausted." Glad I tried the demo before buying the game.

What are the conditions? Game is very realistic, temperature and ground conditions matter also for fatigue. Also how fit and motivated the units are.

Doing anything in full combat kit is tiring, newbie mistake is thinking this like it is an arcade RTS game. If you had them on slow like you wrote, no wonder they take their time.

Basic movement order must be used most of the time, running, crawling (slow) and assault only when absolutely needed, like in real life.

Well, if they're still gasping for air after ten minutes of doing absolutely nothing, then I guess the answer is "a heck of a lot less fit and motivated than I would have expected from America's professional soldiers."

Well they don't get exhausted doing absolutely nothing.

I feel like we're talking past each other here...
I am not asking "How did my soldiers become exhausted?"
I am aware that running, slow walking, assaulting is tiring.
I am asking, "Why, after becoming exhausted, have they not recovered after ten minutes of rest? Is this a permanent condition and, if not, how much longer will they require to recover?"

LOL sorry, but are you trolling?

Just continue the game and you will find out how long it takes to recover.

Nobody else knows what orders you gave those troops and how long they travelled, so no-one else than you can know.

I guess you were talking past each other since all those points were already answered.

The answers are: because it's hot and they're extremely tired; no, it's not permanent; and, wait and see.

I had this happen recently on Battle for Normandy after accidentally getting a bunch of guys to crawl for about a mile. They stayed exhausted for the rest of the game. It felt like a bug but could be a feature. It seems like maybe you got unlucky with experiencing this in the demo as I have hundreds of hours across this series and have only seen it happen once.
