Trying to set up pbem for the first time goes back to main menu?

I am having difficulty in getting pbem to work. I went into Quick battle, choose small map set each side to human player, choose mix in terms of type of units and set it to pbem and i picked which side ie Attacker and it asked for me to enter password, i created one and then it just goes back to main game menu screen. I was expecting to load the battle and make my first turn before sending the file to a friend.

Am i doing something wrong?

It's a while that i don't fight a pbem battle...But apparently you did everything right...You have to send your first file... then your opponent will choose his force and send back a file... Only then you will be able to give your first orders.

Okay, is that because I choose Attacker? makes sense. So my friend will need to setup defences first then it will be my turn. Right?

Correct. Basically, each person does an initial setup and then you send the file contained in Outgoing Files. Your friend takes that file and puts it into Incoming Files (which will be accessible under Saved Games).
