How to play live Multiplayer
The steps for multiplayer are described in the Engine Manual that comes with the game (select manuals button from the launcher). In short:

CMx2 uses a peer-to-peer connection between the two players. One player assumes the role of the host, while the other player joins as client. The host first creates a new Battle by choosing which scenario he wants to play, and from the Game Start window selects the appropriate game type: “2 Player Internet/LAN”. On the next screen, CMx2 automatically detects and lists all IP numbers associated with the host computer, as well as which port will be used for the connection. Then waits for the client player to join.

Combat Mission uses the UDP and TCP port 7023 for all multiplayer games. If you are trying to HOST a TCP-IP game make sure and open port 7023 for both UDP and TCP traffic

To get more information about fort forwarding, there are a number of sources to help out. A good place to start could be this one:

It does not work. Me and a friend has tried with the steam game, and the non-steam version and we can't connect in the steam version. We have played these games for years in multiplayer. We connected just fine with the same IP and port in the non-steam version, but in the steam version it just connects forever so something is not working.

Hi Robz, could you please contact support? We would like to see if we can identify the issue you are having. https://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/login/create_request#/ticket-form/19756

I used Hamachi for years with CM games, I assume it will work with the steam version

We assumed so too, however we port forward but it works the same way.

We have solved the problem, it was apperently steam that had not installed the game correctly somehow. So after we verified the game files, both of us had to download files that couldn't be verified and multiplayer works after that. Would be great if the game actually gave some sort of message of something beeing wrong, rather than beeing stuck on "connecting", most games give error messages but this game pretends like nothing happens.

What should I do if my ISP has blocked port 7023 and does not provide a white IP address?
Evanheart Sep 13, 2020 @ 1:07pm
So how did you find the files because me and my friend are having the same issue?

Steam has a function to "verify game files", meaning steam will check the game if anything is wrong. Use that function and it should in theory work, as it did for us.

No matter what I do just seem unable to play real time with one friend, I can play just fine with another friend, but when my one friend and I try to play together the person trying to connect just gets "connecting" for eternity, we've tried forwarding ports, plaiyng through hamachi etc, but to no avail. Also attempted to verify game files as stated above but all that did was turn the main menu music back on

For a game that's 12 years old and selling it for almost 100 dollars you could at least fix the MP......Do you not have the source code anymore?

I've played this series for years and i found that the built in direct ip join is wierd to say the least, i've used hamachi and created a virtual lan to be able to play with people directly in this game, never worked thru direct ip and it works perfectly with hamachi everytime, dunno why

I don't know if the mods can pin this comment but the fix for anyone having issues hosting is simple. Shock force 2 gives you the wrong IP address to send to the person you are playing with. It gives you the IP address for your own network, not the IP address someone would need to reach you via the internet. Go to http://www.howtofindmyipaddress.com and give your friend the IP address that shows up there.

Check out this website for further clarification; https://community.battlefront.com/topic/122867-2-player-internetlan/

YOU STILL NEED TO OPEN PORT 7023!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
