Chaining Rollercoasters

Im trying to build roller coasters and for some reason when i click on the chain icon and hit the ramp it either takes off the chain or it goes straight to straight track. what do i do.

You can't use the lift chain with most track pieces. It varies by coaster type, but typically you can only use lift chains on straight flat or uphill pieces only (no turns, no steep uphill). Not all coasters use a chain lift hill, so for example the junior coaster type can have turns in a lift hill.

So if im understanding. Not all coasters will allow me to use the chain? And a little more clarity i have tried using the chain on uphill pieces as well and it still wont go.

When building a coaster, all lift hill pieces are represented by the chain icon button, but some coaster types don't actually use a chain in reality. The game tries to be realistic about which track pieces can be used in a lift hill based on what type of lift hill the coaster type uses in reality.
