If anyone wants to play there though, they can use this as it's just another launcher https://github.com/derrod/legendary
Do not worry, I'd never take anything from these people. Not for free, not even if they'd pay me.
And no it isn't standing for anything to try to boycott Epic. The ones actually standing for something are those who strictly do not pay for any DRM games whatsoever. So will typically get games on GOG. Since GOG outright prohibits DRM. Unlike Steam, Epic shop offers no DRM. Just like any shop that sells games, it's up to devs if they want to attach DRM to their games. So very few games on EGS even use DRM.
It's even highly likely that this game will be DRM-free on Epic just like most all games on there with few exceptions. Yet release on Steam, which is a DRM, will more likely have DRM on it. Since the DRM coding step is part of the default Steamworks process for releasing Steam games.
While I myself am willing to take the DRM up the rear in order to play games I love, I have mad respect for those refusing to pay for any DRM games. And insane respect for CD Projekt for prohibiting it on their entire GOG shop as a policy well as games they develop. Glad to say, the games I've purchased from Epic have been DRM-free (not by intention) - The Outer Worlds, Ashen, Journey to the Savage Planet, etc.
So yes, it is truth about Epic keeping games from getting released on Steam. But a better way to put it is rescuing games from getting locked onto Steam DRM. Which for sure all of those games would have been if released on Steam. Just like Sekiro and DMC5. Even Remnant was trapped on Steam DRM for over a year before releasing on EGS. And those are just a few examples of many more in 2019 that got locked on Steam for DRM. And thousands over the years.
So yes. Respect for anybody actually standing for something by refusing DRM. No respect for avoiding games on one shop while paying for games on a DRM shop. Who stand for absolutely nothing. Everybody should be glad they aren't forced to install AOL and keep it running in order to access the internet. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for accessing games we own offline installed in our own PC.Thank you Epic for rescuing many games. Thank you for giving this game free, among many other insane giveaways.
Usually, Epic pays for each free copy of any game (or pay the developers quite a good money for the whole giveaway) and I don´t think this is any different. So getting it on Epic will also support Frontier, but also your own Wallet (and it will strike on Epic´s wallet)
literally all they did was change the word Platinum to COMPLETE, tried this out on epic store already
Was playing the outer worlds via epic recently and i wanted to review it but it just wasn't possible on the platform. if they wanna give away huge amounts of free quality games let them but it won't change my first choice which is steam.
Now i GAF about Steam...
I take the FREE game on EGS, you guys don't have to!!!
It's a free market competition which is good for the customers.
I wish any store that compete with Steam the best!!!
This. Steam allows your voice to be heard. Epic doesn't and does what it wants. Cliffy B is one of those SJWs who thinks people should shut up and do as they are told, their opinions be damned.
Epic has NO interest in hearing what you have to say, nor any interest in it being heard on their platform at all.
Say what you will about Steam - you can voice your opinion on here.
