Is collector's edition worth it?
want to pick up the game and am wondering specifically about the costumes and weapons.

Costumes, I'd say no. You are in non-combat a good amount in the beginning hour or 2 at the start, but when you start getting into combat stages (there's 2 sets of like 3-4 dungeons in a row, for example), then your character will be in her combat suit the entire time. And there's only one combat suit. Honestly, by the end of the game, you'll likely forget what civilian outfit your character had on before all the combat stuff.

Weapons, I'd actually say yes. They grow with you as you assign more points into the skill system. While the growing weapons are inferior to end-game stuff, they work just fine up until that point. Plus, the Collector edition weapons are visually distinct and different colors to the normal game stuff. Purple sword, green twin blades, orange (or yellow?) greatsword.
Sadly, there's no gun included in the Collector weapons.

The chips you get as part of the Collector pack? mediocre at the start, never used as soon as you get any other Chip. It's the equivalent of getting two free potions at the start of a Pokemon game.
