Makes me wonder if the demo is still the pre fixed version then because combat felt real chunky, and I couldn't dodge cancel. Just mashed X until things died while occasionally getting unavoidably stabbed in the face.
Possibly. In the full game version, every melee attack can be dodge-canceled. Ranged ones can't if my memory serves, but the recovery time from pistol shots is VERY short and the later unlocked missile launcher and laser gun are mainly anti-boss weapons. Bosses have wide enough openings for those to be fired.
As someone who loves the game, I'll try to give you a picture without bias. The combat has a lot of variety to it: the MC can wield a total of 4 different types of melee weapons (two at a time can be equipped, one has two forms you can switch between) and three ranged weapons (one can be equipped at a time) as well as martial art attacks slightly similar to what you see in 2D fighting games. To defend from enemy attacks you can either perform a dodge-roll or airdash later, guard with an in-built energy shield or parry melee attacks with the correct timing. Energy projectiles can be deflected Star Wars-style with your melee weapons. With that said: the difficulty isn't too high. It's not a walk in the park alright, but you won't be dying left and right either. As long as you keep on top of dodging, parrying and not getting surrounded and swarmed by enemies, you're alright. Bosses are reasonably difficult. The game is generous with items. The game does allow you to feel more challenged by not upgrading your HP/defense/attack power or using weaker weapons.
Sorry about the wall of text, hope you found it helpful.
That's useful info. Might have to check it out then. I don't NEED my game to be punishing but I do like a challenge. However, I don't like to have to gimp myself to get it. I guess we'll see if the game can impress me in less than 2 hours. I don't really care about cyberpunk, and I hear the story is kind of disjointed anyway, so it's going to have to be the combat.
The complete story in the game is a reward for thorough exploration and puzzle solving. There are lots of details you can miss unless you turn over every proverbial stone.
Aaah. I didn't particularly enjoy opening every trashbag and garbage bin I found, soooo. I might miss out, haha.
Story pieces are found on data terminals and tablets, not in trash bins :D. Though, exploration is a part of this game and therefore you might enjoy a title focused entirely on combat more.
