Im sure many will claim otherwise as you can indeed use multiple towers to win on most any map. I always found myself using the same 5 towers for vast majority of the game.
1) monk tower
2) shadow archers
3) beam towers
4) elf archers
5) the reef tower that shoots magic and puts 2 lizards on the ground.
Basically i start with a monk tower ( 2 on most maps) upgraded to max but only take the extra gold perk at first. Quickly rush 2nd monk tower to have the +gold perk. This provides so much extra $$$ over the course of the map that you can truly dominate. Almost alwasy i have a beam tower and arrow tower up front of monk tower. And often a reef tower directly behind monk tower and sometimes an elf archer staggered behind that. This set up works on virtually every map. Boss levels i generally dont ever put reef or elf archers on the path of boss and generally include more arrow and beam towers.
The combination of arrow tower applying 100% more damage for x(cant remeber) seconds while beam tower is locked on will melt any boss. Plus your character hitting it and dropping a green nuke all while the boss carries your arrow debuff is soo strong.
The overall above setup i mentioned is decent against air as well. At first 2 monk towers is a bit soft and you may find yourself going back and forth with your main character. So you dont really want a slow melee caharcter for this setup.
Have fun!
Depends I guess. Only took me a couple of days to do the whole thing, including Heroic and Iron levels. The new tower and hero are good, much better than the prior ones. There are boss fights on every stage, so if you like boss fights...
Are the stages more or less challenging then the primal ravage stages?
To me, Frozen Nightmare and Cursed Bargain were the hardest to work through.
I'd say these are harder than Primal Ravage, but I'd also say Primal Ravage was easier than Frozen Nightmare or Cursed Bargain. If you don't use hints from on-line sources, then yeah, these are harder. I had to lookup a youtube video to get through the final fight, but once I saw what tower really helped then the rest fell in line. I would say I'm not disappointed I paid for the DLC.

I messed up on the first boss, forgot to bring my witch over to attack him.
I'm not sure what causes the Deep King to attack certain towers. There is always a bit of a luck element as to which tower he attacks. This wasn't my fastest kill for him by far, but it worked.
