Close Combat Cross of Iron Owned through GOG - can't play multiplayer

This topic has been covered a lot, but in close combat - cross of iron I have tried using gameranger and opening ports, but neither seem to work.

GameRanger Problem - It will only recognize a file that is named CC3 and the file to open the game is cce meaning I cannot add the game

Port Forwarding - I have opened the ports needed (47624TCP 2300-2400TCP 1944TCP 6073TCP) and the game will not find my partner in the game of either one of us hosts

Please give some information as we have played games like Longest Day, Last Stand Arnhem, and Wacht Am Rhein using Port Forwarding, but Game Ranger has never worked for us.

how? could you teach me?
my friend and i both opened those ports, but none of the ip's i type will work.
so my friend clicks 'host' and i click 'host ip" and type his IP, am i supposed to type something specific?

You have to use your online ip it says to enter your LAN ip

i google 'what is my ip' and send it to my friend to type. no results.
i go cmd config /all and send him my router external IP, internal IP, no results.
can i add you on steam and we can try?

for the record it took some trial and error to get it to work for me i will help as best i can though

I try to set up online game with friend . I have tried game ranger, but it is not see my copy of Close Combat Cross of Iron what I own thru GoG. If anyone could provide more advice on port forwarding technique, or how to make GameRanger work? Many thanks.

just letting you and everyone else who might read this in the future know that this game will give varying results to everyone. it might work for some, it simply wont for the rest. i think it has something to do with the network/internet/region but no matter what i tried nothing worked. i got several people that claimed to have gotten it to work try and help me but it didnt work for me, despite following their steps precisely. very disappointing but o well.

You can use https://www.ipchicken.com/ to see what your IP to the world is.
I also had to set up port forwarding on my xfinity gateway for each of the ports identified in the original post for my son and I to connect and play, so be aware that in addition to setting up your firewall on your gaming machine, if you are behind a gateway like xfinity's, you will have to open up those ports or set port forwarding for those ports to your gaming machine.
We were able to get connected and play though
