Matchmaking is only fast at higher ratings because all the remaining active players are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ A- minimum, that includes skilled players and terrible players.
Despite what people say, ratings DO matter because they affect matchmaking too much.
If you're a new player, you won't see 90% of the active players at D- even at peak times in any of the US, EU, SEA, or Asia regions. None of them even play quick matches, it's ALWAYS rated mode or custom matches unless there's a 'situation battle' every weekend.
The 9% are people who just farm in A/B lobbies all day long.
The 1% are the new players who were interested in the game, try to play it, can't find matches for hours, play a custom match instead then realises it sucks, then quit.
Unless you have all the free time in the world, patience of a surgeon, and tolerance of a punching bag, this game ain't worth it. GBO2 PC is so ♥♥♥♥ its unreal.
This really isn't true at all. You can find games pretty easily the moment you get anywhere near A-, because most of the playerbase is in A- at this point and the game basically floats you there whether you're good or not, given that you can do it with a win rate well under 50%.
I have no idea where you're getting this from, but I know it isn't personal experience, because you've been in C for like a year now.
the cycle for me is either Matchmake for 8hrs, get squashed, loose rank progress, repeat. Or Matchmake for 8hrs, Win, Gain Progress, Then lose momentum cause i gotta Matchmake for 8hrs again.
its gotten to the point where i forget certain mechanics during matches cause i havent played enough to get them down LOL
For a new player / low rating, playing anywhere from 5 AM to noon EST will get you quicker matches (probably instant for anyone B+ & up) since that's when all the Asians are on - they're the large majority of players, because the west HATES Gundam.
Once you get to A-, there shouldn't be problems barring a bad matchmaking algorithm playing at any time of day. I'm usually somewhere in A+ or A, and it usually only takes a few minutes to get a match for the rated banner cost if I'm on at the lowest point of the day.
Yeah but that's the exact opposite of what this dude said, that's all I was getting at. Char is pretty widely known for just kind of saying things that aren't true, and knowing him, there's a good chance he said this just to front.
Trust me, I know it's ass. I got a fresh alt to A later last year because the crew I play with had some geek who kept insisting there's just no way to carry lower rank games, and I wanted to see if it was as easy as I remembered (and maybe take the opportunity to humble this dude a bit).
I basically just did not get games unless I played late at night or early in the morning (neither of which I really wanted to bother doing), or just played during normal daytime hours on saturday afternoons. I usually wound up doing the last one, when I played on it at all. A lot of my attempts to climb with it were just playing at sensible hours for myself and hoping I found people. I'd say that worked out maybe a quarter of the time at best, but I really did not want to be playing this at like 5 AM just to rank up an alt I sorta-almost-kinda give a ♥♥♥♥ about, so it was always at least worth a shot to me.
Even when you do play during the ideal hours, there's always the chance you just won't find enough new players to get games, because that happened a couple times as well. Like other people have pointed out, you really just have to stick with it until you can gradually win enough to hit A, and then you won't have trouble finding games. Even B+ or so should be sufficient.
You sit in A-win customs all day long with the other trolls on these forums. Maybe if you type more paragraphs you can cope about it.
I play around the peak activity periods and have not much problem finding matches. Some days it's a little slow, I usually don't have to wait more than 5 minutes to find a match, most of the time, it's less than 2 minute. Watching my clanmates at A to A+ play, they get queues quicker but it's not all that much different. I've recently had to observe a new player make his way up the rating and he had no problems getting all the way to S- playing his way up during peak activity period too.
The reason why it's a bunch of A/A+ people sitting in A win lobbies is because that's where most people end up just from casually playing rated.
