Economy? Update?

I almost bought this game when it came out... and then I read how you start the game with so much money that there is nothing to work towards - which is better than an economy that is broken and can't sustain itself - obviously, the economy was not "worked out" yet, which has a pretty strong impact on how the game plays out, and can break the fun.

So... the game is on sale again... and I ask... how's the game economy now?
