Report a translation problem
It's possible that during the build, the belt leading to the input sorter was deleted and built again, and didn't correctly attach to the sorter. In that case it would normally be indicated with a broken link.
In this case, it may be a minor bug. Try deleting the assembler and placing a new one. I trust you understand how to place sorters considering you have them setup on your smelters correctly.
O'm about 75% certain that your sorter on the Assembler Input is backwards. Input has to go from the belt into the machine when placed. Putting a sorter in the machine going out will make it an output port.
I thought this, too, but taking a closer look at the input sorter, it appears to have the arrow pointing into the assembler.
I can't even make out the input/output if it's only a tile long.
As others have mentioned, simply deleting the assembler and starting again would be the simplest way to correct the problem I've had.
