Find raised ground. Stamp it flat by placing a bunch of buildings over it.
Or just place a storage box on the high ground, you get the soil, then pick the box back up
has to be a better way and the devs should have a tool to get soil ..they have foundations so why not a tool?...it will take alot of buildings to get enuff soil to fill in the large body of water that i need to expand my production..
stamp down mountains with buildings or foundations.
Your starter planet doesn't have much extra soil, they want you to get out and explore the system. This is why you don't get silicon or titanium either. The other planets in your system will have lots of hills to get soil from. Don't sweat it.
I personally dislike the soil and foundation mechanic so I just mod it out. Soil/foundation is free and unlimited once terraforming is researched.

Exactly the info I was looking for. There's nothing one could even call a hill on my default planet.
Constructors have a big area and you can drag a long row of them instantly. Then use the click and drag mode to deconstruct them all with 1 click.
This is such a boring mechanic and it feels like a chore. Wish the game could convert foundations into soil once you're empty of soil. One foundation gives X amount of soil. I know there's a mod that does it, but I don't know if you can get achievements with it.

science labs work well for this too. they take about as much space if not a tiny bit more.
Coming here to see if there was a better way than this, placing a bunch of buildings to get soil only to pick them back up.

So while this game heavily shines on handy tools and features, here's an area it just lacks. There is a foundation tool that allows you to flatten a large swath of land, but that requires materials and can't be packed up again.

What we need here is a mass delete tool OR a mass bulldoze/level tool. My mouse (and quite frankly finger) is getting worn out placing and picking up all these buildings.

Dev's, please add some useful feature here.
You can change the foundation grid size by the -/+ minus buttons.

If you proliferate the foundations before you use them, you get bonus soil based on the extra products bonus. It also reduces soil consumption by the extra products bonus. This being based on the wiki https://dsp-wiki.com/Spray_Coater#Proliferator_Bonuses

It is where building on planets that are mostly filled with land like stone hurricane are nice, since they give you soil stockpiles.
Soil mechanic seems fine to me.
I find soil mechanics annoying early (though I assume they're there to prevent you from paving over your entire starting planet before you're able to leave -- as that might strand you without any access to water.

But once I'm building on other worlds I usually end up with enough surplus soil organically that I don't need to worry about it (unless I want to do something extreme like go pave over a water world)
One of the very first things to build after basis mall and research is a dedicated foundation build that runs all the time. Start by building foundations on your first planet. On high elevation areas. Later you can find planets with high elevation platforms that give you millions of soil.
