How to pick up an item from the belt?
Currently I just delete the belt and then reconstruct it, but it is sub-optimal. Any way to simply pick up an item?

Hold left click anywhere on the belt.

left click the belt segment with the item you desire to remove from it and then you can pull it from the window that comes up.

Well, the segment usually has more than one item on it, an as luck has it, it shows the wrong one.

Ah yeah mixing belts just complicates things.

It is not mixing on purpose - it is by mistake. Or rather most common way is when the production result is multiple items, but there is no way to set up filter in advance to say what items goes on which belt.

There is though? Just leave building power grid for the last and set up/examine everything first, before turning on the production.

i mean i changed my mind on my smelter world where i want certain production lines and i knew my options were:

1: rip the belt up with everything on it and rebuild (not favorable

2: sit at the end and clean the belt off dumping the resource where its gonna go so it wont clog my inventory.

only time cleaning resources off a belt with option 1 are done for me is when the belt feeds into a building but something else is in there jamming it and isnt visible.

i guess what im sayin is, if you got mixed product on a belt and it wasnt intended, it shouldnt be hard to clean off unless its a belt that wraps around the planet 3 times, is mostly an item that stacks to 20, and is important enough you dont want to delete it. which if thats the case, that a user needs to be more careful when laying things out issue.

There were a few times where I had something like that happen, which is why I started to set rules for each sorter, even if there is only one item results in production, so that there is no more accidents like this. Wish there was a mod to automate that, but I doubt it will be created.

There is, but in most cases you have to select the recipe first, you can either do this while the building is unpowered or before you lay all the belts, but it can be done.

If you set a sorter before the recipe is set you won't get the little pop-up quick select to filter the recipe's outputs. But you can still click on the sorter after placing it, then click the filter button, and set it to whatever item or building you'd like.

(And obviously if there's no recipe set then the building's not outputting anything while you're working to set up the filter).

Actually there is. You can set a sorter to pick a specific item when you put it down, and change that at any time.

When you select a recipe it just filters out possible items that can go through the sorter, otherwise it will show every item that you unlocked(like in Fabricator).

yeah same, anywhere i decide i need a sorter, i typically need priority input and output.

would be nice if there was a NOT logic switch in them so whatever filter you have setup, it will simply not let that material come out there. great for belts that might have a lot of things on it though probably not typical in this game.

Splitters are also great for dealing with mixed production, such as oil refineries.
