how do you find your way around what you built?
I often find myself looking for a factory/farm I set up - needing to investigate why a certain resource dried up - and it can sometime takes me minutes to find it.
How do you organize stuff to make it easy to find?
I tried using colored foundation - but I keep loosing my way among the colors, and when its nighttime - some of the colors are hard to identify.

Also - it can be hard to find a resource vein sometimes when I found all of them but one - a simple "next resource" button feature would be a great addition to the game to quickly locate the ones I need.

Seen some people will start to do dedicated worlds for certain resources. For example a forge world which takes iron ore from other planets/systems and exports iron ingots.

I just remember what I did and use logistic towers as landmarks. I suppose if I reentered a game from 6 months ago, I might get lost for a while.

Consider using conveyor belt monitors for this - put one on the output belt, set it to 60 seconds, target resource count to slightly below what the factories/mines connected there should produce, set the condition to "greater or equal", and the global alarm to "Fail and No Cargo" - you now get a notification at the top of the screen when the belt carries less items than it should (the "and No Cargo" part makes sure it doesn't notify you when the belt is backed up).

Some people also use research cubes on belts as markers, since they glow in the dark.

In my current playthrough I set myself the challenge to have a home planet mall which produces either as units/time or units per one Mk 1 assembler (its enough) and just uses basic resources as inputs (ore/ingots, acid, water, plants, ref oil, hydrogen, rare minerals) and constructing dedicated themed planets (aswell as trying to fit planet type to production) for a specific item/class of items (eg circuitry, metal smelting, metal refining, oil refining, research, fuel)

It really helps with overseeing of what is going on.

Imo this gives some more life to the part of the universe where one is playing and forces to use different kinds of planets and even more interaction between them.

One good way is to place some letters with belts and fill them with science, that glow is clearly visible in the planet overview to find spezific factories quickly

Location markers on the ground. Belt letters filled with red cubes.

Holy crap! I didn't know monitors could do that! I just thought its a cool way to see production numbers! I'll definitely give it a try! thanks!!

personally i have no issue simply remembering where i built stuff and how. i just remember such things.

if your not like me, rename your planets and stars ;)

On individual planets I like to use satellite substations as markers for important locations because they are visible from a distance and easily recognizable. I'll put 1 to 4 of them out and use the number of them to help me identify what is what from a distance.

But generally I organize things by making almost every planet dedicated to just one or two production lines with not many parts involved, and renaming them to indicate what they produce (and renaming star systems according to all exportable resources produced in the system). It's generally easy to get around when all star systems and planets are set up like that.

I use mods, LSTM and BetterStats, from r2modman.
