not sure it this applies in your situation, but my dsp has only ever crashed when I turned auto-save off (go figure), and then it crashed multiple times till i turned auto-save back on. i don't run any mods tho.
The point was, there is not a problem letting the game run overnight.
It takes a lot of time to build a single layer sphere producing over 5TW. Nothing wrong with the way I did it. It wasn't for research
Usually when I leave the game unattended overnight it's for building spheres, not for research.
Also there's no such thing as a "horribly wrong playstyle" in a sandbox game. If someone prefers to build a small infrastructure and do research unattended, there's nothing wrong with that.
Exactly. Building a huge sphere takes time. Specifically, this one took 21 days to complete, so I let the game run. I had stopped researching by that time. My resource usage research was down to 0.2% no need to keep on going for such miniscule gains that were coming by then.
So I could:
a) Exit the game so it only runs while I'm actively expanding my factory, or
b) Leave it running and let it make some progress until I have time to sit down and play it some more.
If I wasn't going for a speed achievement, why wouldn't I chose 'b'?
You're gonna make me cry...
Nah, I'm fine, sorry to disappoint you.
