If you've gone afk and come back to find yourself in deep space then your autosaves are likely no use, however if you've got warpers simply turn around and warp back.
If you've got no warpers and the trip out was sub warp aswell then turn around and afk for a similar amount of time.
It's really only lost if you warped out into the nether and now have no warpers and are hours/days of sub warp travel from the nearest star.
About the only way to get perma-stuck is to be out of power and fuel on a star -- where the power drain exceeds the trickle charge rate; so you can never escape.
