I don't use mods in this game or most others. But since this is a single-player game, I don't worry if other people want to use mods. I decline to take the Milky Way scores too seriously.
Genuine question - I've no idea why someone would feel the need to cheat considering you can get the point of (arguably) infinite resources on the hardest setting possible so long as you put the effort in.
If you weren't going to put the effort in then just don't play the harder difficulty settings and you're good. Makes no difference really, no need to cheat.
I'm playing on x0.5 resources on about mid fog difficulty and it's still not a hard game providing you make good choices... Cheating at this game seems like a really weird thing to do, playing it on "creative" makes the whole thing completely pointless - so why bother ?
They will cheat because there is a Leader Board (the milky way).
I too do not see the point in cheating, though as soon as there are scores on display others will cheat. Shame but true.
Same thing for Achievements. As soon as there are Achievements on display, people will cheat to get them all flipped on, then treat is as a flex.
Ironically, my favorite pro-cheating 'excuse' I've ever heard came from here on the DSP forums just recently. A player, *redacted*, claimed "I don't like the pop-ups interrupting my games", so they cheat to earn all the achievements in every game instead of, you know, TURNING OFF POPUPS. I honestly laughed when I first read that - it was such a brazenly B.S. answer and the idea that they honestly believed anyone else would believe them was just... yeah.
You want your sad little flex? Fine, keep it, just make sure you are honest with yourself as to why you did it, heh.
There are literally BILLIONS of unique "stars" (dots) possible on the Milky Way leaderboards (I have 4 just on my own!), so if someone wants a star all to themselves with any amount of power they can produce, it's really not too difficult. 10 Million unique seed numbers x 32-64 stars x 6 different resource settings x (the different Dark Fog settings?)= A LOT. It's one of the Primary reasons I don't share my seeds.
You'll notice that most games are clustered around certain seeds - those with a high Blue Giant count/luminosity and/or easily accessible Tidal Locked planets. The 'Selsion' seed lists had a pretty large influence on that. I think having those seeds lists available is actually a good thing though, as it gives players even more options to customize their own games should they choose - since it's impossible to know how a seed will play out until it's loaded up. With the aforementioned literally 'billions' of options, it's nice to be able to 'narrow things down' a bit, choice-wise.
The time and effort it would take to prevent Milky Way fraud will ALWAYS be a losing effort. Anti-cheating is a constant game of cat & mouse - each update will get rid of some cheats - but actual cheaters will always find a way. In a game like this where it literally doesn't matter, I'd rather the Devs focus the limited time/resources on the actual game development. Sure put some basic guardrails in place, but after that - yeah, no. More game, please, I don't care about the Milky Way board.
Never clicked on that in the menu before today.
Clicked on it today because of this thread, been playing this game for about a year on and off and didn't know it was a thing.
If that's what people spending their time trying to cheat then go for it.
Honestly I don't really understand how good I am on it anyway, I've got four stars on there with one pretty close to the middle. I guess that means something.
"I think" the size of the star on the Milky Way map, corresponds to the power you generate for that Seed Cluster.
If more than one person wants a specific seed ... say 1111 1111 or 0000 0000 etc.
Then the top 10 players are listed in order of Power and the Top player for that seed gets to have their name displayed on the Cluster :)
I was mainly interested if the Milky Way board will reset on launch.
:P
From what I can see - and this could be coincidental - the closer to the centre your star is, the better the score.
My closest to the centre is my best previous playthrough, the other three are less and are proportionally further away from the centre.
If it's a coincidence it's a pretty happy one.
This playthrough should be pretty good, I'm on track to crush all my previous tries.
