Dark Fog Hives reapear after the got destroyed?
Hi,

I had a strange effect in my saving. I destroyed the Hive within my startsystem and it was completely gone (after I destroyed those 5 or so remainders), even the display for the hive was gone. A few hours later I warped back from another system and the Hive was back and started to place bases on my planets, which I disarmed somehow cause I thought I dont need shields etc. anymore. So I had to clean up the planets and destroy the Hive again. This time the display for the Hive stays and the level raises, but the threat-level stays zero and nothing seems to happen.

Will it reapear someday? Does anybody know how this is intended to work?

I thought I saw posting that the Hive is gone forever once you destroyed it (in that system), but obviously that not the case, or it may be buged.

Hives will send out colony ships to systems that are not at maximum allowed hives, so unless you eradicate all of them everywhere they will be back.
You can intercept those ships when they fly between the stars but it seems to be best practice to have all your planets shielded up to they can't land and starve out any hive that might wander back in.

Thank you, That would explain why they return, but not why I cant fully destroy the Hive again.

I thought that in the end there will be a mechanism for them to try to recultivate systems, but a destroyed hive that gains levels while having zero threat etc. sounds odd.

Maybe that system is broken after they rebuilt the hive.

That is odd indeed, haven't had the problem myself but when you click on the hive threat meter it should give you a line that leads to whatever remnants are in your system.
If that also doesn't help then i have no idea.

Normally being unable to completely destroy a hive means there's some remnant in the system that's capable of rebuilding it.

It might be a planetary base, it might be a seed that was launched from such a base before it was destroyed, it might be a seed launched from the hive to place a new planetary base. Those in-flight seeds show up on the system view as a white angular blob.
Basically, recheck all your planets to make sure all bases have been destroyed and check for things flying around.

Still, worst case if you shield your planets (or protect them from new bases using appropriately configured missiles or plasma batteries) the space hive will eventually respawn but be unable to build ships or expand and you can come clean it up later.

I destroyed the hive twice now and at the location that you are lead to when clicking the Hive-Icon is nothing left. I cleaned all planets in the system after the Hive was rebuilt and that was already 10 to 20 hours ago. But the Hive is gaining levels and is now at lvl 14, which is very confusing. As fars as I can tell, there is no planetary base left and the hive is killed, also the reminders of the base you have to take down after your fighters destroyed the Hive-Structure in sppace, all is gone for hours now and the Hive still gains level.

As far as I know even if you perform a crusade seed ships will spawn off map. So we can't eradicate them but you can contain them by ensuring the last remaining hives don't have resources to make seed ships.

I had same problem and I solved it by finding and destroying the seed that was created in this hive. Then the empty hive disappeared. But it was like a week or two ago, maybe this bug or whatever was fixed.

If the bar in the top left does not go away when you kill the hive means they still had a planetary base up and running or on the way to a planet. But yes the hives send out seed ships to infect other systems
