Dark Fog Strategy
What should we do with the dark fog? I felt good about myself, when I removed the first base. It took a long time for them to come back. And at that point, they'd pretty much instantly come back, after every base I destroyed. It was becoming a distraction (despite the free geothermal power). So, then I switched to leaving the hole in place, and setting up turrets to destroy anything that spawned on it. That seems to keep them from building bases, in new spots, and lets me get back to tending my base.

But I've seen mixed comments on whether or not the orbital hive can be taken out. Most are saying it's not doable, until a future update. But I saw one person said he did it with a lot of corvettes. And even then, does that guarantee they don't return to the system? And if you attack anything in space, then you will potentially trigger a massive planetary attack, down the road, so what's the point? Or do they just continue to get stronger and larger, if I don't?

I'm not really sure what to do with them yet. It seems like you have to allow them a single base, to keep them from being overly aggressive. How is everyone else dealing with them?

At first i purged them from my main planet and second planet so they started 4 or so bases on the final one and left the other two alone. It wasnt my intent to basically shove them in the closet to never see them but that is what happened. Then i purged them from the third just to see what happens and they put three bases on the second and two back on the third and ive decided to let them stay since i saw the new goodies they drop. Second planet is a lava planet so its just laser turrets with the sensor tower for bait to keep them off the rest of the surface. Now im scratching my head trying to figure out if its safe to kick into high gear with production or not since im not sure exactly how hard they go for the sensor towers. I would hate to build a full smelting/manufacturing array only for them to ignore the towers and beeline for all my goodies.

Either way im not a fan of how i did this early game though. After purging them from the first two planets it was basically a vanilla game of DSP till i landed on the third planet so i wont be doing that again.

I started off wasting a lot of time building missile launchers all over the planet to destroy their bases, and battlefield analysis bases to help with repairs... but now that I have a good amount of missile launchers I ignore them unless the game warns me they are doing damage ... then I plop down a blueprint besides them.

The blueprint is tiny, and contains..
A battlefield analysis base to collect the junk, feeds out to 2 assemblers... one produces plasma exciters, and feeds the 2nd assembler that takes all it's other inputs from the base.. and makes defensive drones, then feeds them back into the base. This gives 4 drones to the base to support it.
Then a Laser turret for additional local defense, and finally and most importantly a signal tower - anything in range of the relay base gets nuked in a few seconds so I put it as close as I can to them as possible.
With this blueprint I can destroy most enemy relay bases in under 1 minute.
