Current Mods with Dark Fog
I guess since mods will most likely need to be updated, it's probably best to go into a new Dark Fog game save without mods? It feels kind of weird thinking of some of the mods I use right now not working. I'm so used to a few mods right now that the game is going to feel broken even with the update if they don't work.

For example, DSP is almost unplayable after using the following mods if they aren't available:
- Bulldozer
- CruiseAssist
- Auto Sorter
- Station Info
- Overflow Tank
- Planet Finder
- Pump Anywhere
- Railguns Retarget Mini
- Trash2Sand

Bigger worry is that the mod authors have given up on DSP.

Wasting time on combat instead of adding something useful for mod authors, such as Steam Workshop support would have kept the mod authors around...

I couldn't agree more. I wish the update included 50/50 combat and non-combat updates. I seriously don't care about combat in a beautiful game like this. Just adding in new buildings, exploration, etc. would have been a better deal for me. I hope we get coders/modders back or have them update their current mods for this update even though I probably won't even be playing a combat game save after the update comes out because I can't picture spending 100's of hundreds building stuff for it to be RNG destroyed.

I enjoy the automation. I don't want to play frantically and anxiously worried about if my beautiful bases are going to be randomly destroyed. There's plenty of other games that have environments of destruction. This wasn't the one I was looking for that in.

Anyway you still need a new game for the expansion. Your old saves will not have them in it at all.

Yeah I understand. It would definitely feel weird if even one of those mods don't work on a new play-through with the update, but I guess I'll just have to deal with it. I was only posting out of curiosity. Thanks for the replies.

The devs said it themselves over a year ago: the Dark Fog attributes will be adjustable, including to the point that they'll never attack (either until you attack them, or period), so it's still entirely possible to have an automation-only experience. And even if the buildings are attacked, at worst they're made inoperable with destroyed textures, not destroyed outright and requiring re-placement (there's an entire rebuilding tech for the former, to make it easier).

I myself am keeping my current save for the chill experience, even as I'll make a new one to experience the Dark Fog. Also... "unplayable" without those mods? I've experienced no such issues playing DSP without mods tbh

Mods address several pain-points:

* Placing gas giant stations manually
* Soil pile system / Foundations
* Keeping track of / flying to different planets
* Locating bottlenecks in production

"Unplayable" is a bit much but with 800 hours in, I'm not gonna play the soil pile minigame or spend several minutes to mine a gas giant anymore, among the other issues.

People arent using mods, people are waiting for the dark fog update. Read the room.

Well, suit yourself I guess. I've been doing all these things normally, including simply laying a blueprint for 40 collectors, and there's been no issue personally - sometimes things are a grind, but as long as there's a non-needless purpose and reason behind such stuff, it's fine. Not painful mind; just fine.

^I much prefer unplayable to mean literal game-breaking bug stuff, so that's quite the gap.

So, it's been about two weeks since anyone's posted to this thread, and I'm only doing so to comment on one particular point that was brought up: The soil pile problem.

If any credit can be given, it's that the new combat does actually help fix the soil pile problem if you engage with it. Namely, you get lots of soil pile for defeating the dark fog enemies. And I do mean lots. And by lots, I mean actual millions of soil pile. I almost sh*t myself when I saw how fast I was getting soil pile.

Both the cruiseassist and autopilot seemed to work fine for me a few days ago. I haven't tried yet with the update that just dropped though.

Yeah Yeah, delivering the product as it was advertised is "wasting time" and certainly not the right way to do Early Access, ofc. That take will never stop being hilarious.

As for the topic :
- Bulldozer is now maintained by JClark, same name but different mod, technically.
- CruiseAssist / AutoPilot works as long as you never click the config button, gotta do any config changes in the file. ( Haven't tried it myself yet, not sure if this is still accurate).
- Auto Sorter is up to date
- Station Info seems up to date, if you mean "DSPStationInfo"
- Planet Finder again now maintained, or at least fixed for now by JClark
- Railguns Retarget Mini is up to date
- Trash2Sand seems up to date

* "seems up to date" meaning, might not be completely up to date with the latest patch, but they got updates very recently, so presumably the authors are still active.

"ModFixer One" is a mod that can fix certain issues (e.g. Personal Logistics), and some others have been taken over by other people too (e.g DistributeSpaceWarpers).

To me, DSP is almost unplayable without the LSTM mod...

Game is still under development. No sense in adding mod support when the core game isn't even complete yet. Its a headache with every majory update for the modders themselves to fix their mod. Maybe after or closer to full release.

fairly sure you can get and edit the config file in r2modman/thunderstore MM after running the game at least once with the mods installed. just click "edit config2 on the left side, betwween the downloads and settings (that's for thunderstore), and in r2modman, it's under online and over settings on the left side, and then in that list simply chose the appropriate mod config to edit.
