Energy shards

Dropped by the planetary base and I have two large storage boxes filled with them. I used to burn them in Icarus and it seems they can speed up the replicator. But I have deuterium rods now.
What do y'all do with them?

I burned them in Icarus until I got up to Deut. fuel rods as well. Then I sent a bunch of the extra shards into a field of thermal generators. (I think I kept one storage with a bunch in case they might be used for something else.)

There are other uses for them starting at level 15 threat level.

My Icarus is currently using deut rods as well.
I'm not farming the foggies for now so I keep the proliferated shards in a box in case I want to handcraft something.

They're a crafting material for some of the fog tech, so you can store a bunch and burn the excess for power.

They're also necessary for getting the "It's on Fire" achievement.
Fueling Icarus with Mk.III proliferated energy shards will get his replicator up to the required 400% speed.

(Though by the time you can do that you're probably only fueling him with them just to get this achievement -- fortunately you only need to replicate 1 item at that speed to unlock it; then you can go back to a better fuel source)
