Mothership hunting

If you look at the star map, you'll likely see a little red enemy Star out there that cannot be clicked on/travelled to as a waypoint and is out in deep space, so I wondered if this was the great mothership so set out to find it, and I did. I took along with me a few hundred fighters for my fleet.
You can not only find it, you can destroy it in deep space... but after I did a new one spawned elsewhere in the star system... leaving another hive in a system and setting off for a new star. I presume these are the "new seeds" on the way to infect star systems.
They shine bright like a six pointed star out in space when you get close. Will add some screenshots.
I've killed 4-5 of them and each time they spawn from an existing hive and head off to a new star.

They're seeds. You can hunt them down, but there's no point to it. Hives will produce them given enough time.

if a seed gets to a new system they will start a new hive.
so if they are close enough to hop out too its worth taking them out but but i wouldnt go out the way to get them unless they are threatening a major system

It saves a lot of work to destroy them before they can establish themselves. A hive seed travels a lot slower than Icarus. If you don't want to try destroying it while it's traveling, you can get to it's destination first and destroy it right after it arrives and is really weak.

I missed the one that re-established itself on my start system whilst I was out clearing the black hole for a few hours. But because all 3 planets were littered with defenses and planetary shields it was still v. weak and took it out with a single run of corvettes.
