Space Fights
So, I'm wondering if people have come up with good ways to fight the space dark fog late-ish game. I'm now getting started with white matrix and my current method is to go ~2000m/s at a strafing course next to the hive, out of range to be hit myself as that results in instant death, instead barely close enough that the summoned fleet engages, this will kill a few dozens at first, a few hundreds later. I keep having to land to make sure to recharge my power as the fleet takes said power to be present and to maneuver in space.
Doing this I kill a hive after many many minutes, but at least it works. Is there any better ways people have figured out?

That's been my method as well.

People have been saying here and there, "Set up missile turrets next to scanners to increase their range to hit the hive", but the space range of missile turrets remains 4200 m... no where near enough to target the hive with missiles from even my closest planet (which at its nearest orbit is sill about 0.5-0.6 AU away). The plasma launchers have about 6000m range, still not enough to reach the hive.

I wonder if I'm missing something, or if it was just that my home system was randomly generated such that the hive was too far away to use rockets, requiring close space combat (like you did; that's what I've been doing).

Apparently an update sometime in the future will introduce space stations which presumably would be the intended platform from which to attack space hives... Maybe I should put my new savegame on hold until then.

i'm not sure we can defeat space stations yet :D destroying Relay Station will result a fast attack from space (+50% threat if you kill 1 relay).

Well with a good setup i think you can protect from space THEN all your planets with Missile+Relay station to prevent DarkFog to come.

Because at one moment you occupy too much ground to defend only this.
Actually im trying to setup on neutron planet where DF is. Then my 1st Lava get shot badly from ground.

Problem is that even Relay Station attract them but they shoot stuff on way, and you cannot predict where new bases will be (this bring to my 1st proposal, spread to kill relay but prepare to defend from Space, i didnt do that yet)

OR You just leave relay station to keep shooting new base before it develop (work nice!) but you let Relay Station alive :)

Was my post too long didn't read? You absolutely can kill them and evict them from solar systems, it just takes way too much time and is the same boring tactic over and over again.

you can starve them out and eventually kill them, but I'm pretty sure it's not really meant to be done, yet. it's rumored that more updates will come with player built space stations/fleet bases and more capable player ships to actually fight them in space.

You can order ships to attack from a safe distance (in combat mode, dispatch fleets with number keys then ctrl+click).

Just defeated space hive for the first time.
Normal difficulty, all green science upgrades, lost about 100 ships and 1 home visit to recharge.

I get to ~0.50 AU and then order my ships to attack. Then just watch the 'number of dark fog units in view' to go down. After running out of power, drop to the nearby planet for recharge and repeat.

It is boring and expensive, but it works.
