The UI clearly says what it says here.

IF the UI would say "Fast take items", it would be ok.
BUT the UI says "Fast take/fill items", and this behaviour is not happening as its described on the UI.
(I'm guessing it means take from the smelter and fill your inventory; but it's not perfectly clear)
If you want to fast load the smelter you need to first click on it, which selects it and pops up its info panel (with your inventory shown).
On that screen it says "Fill Materials [TAB] Take Product [~]"
* Pressing [TAB] will fill any input buffers with material from your inventory (iron ore in this case).
* Pressing [SHIFT + LMB] on a material it needs will transfer from that stack of material to the building's input buffer.
* Pressing [CTRL + LMB] on a material it needs will transfer from all stacks of that material to the building's input buffer.
I never thought of holding the input in my cursor before trying [CTRL + LBM].
(I think I'd find it quicker to just click on the building and use [TAB] to load all the inputs from inventory; but it's still useful info)
Thx for info, but this still is just silly, the intent of ever ctrl+LMB'ing a building is to do everything necessary to make that building functional as far as I/O go + collecting results.
They really failed on UX on this one.
