How do I pick up items off the ground?

Ctrl+click doesn't work
Right click doesn't work

Oh man I just saw it, you press Z. A popup with pick up litter popped up.

In my defense, Z wasn't mapped to anything in controls.

Huh, I'd totally missed that there was a shotcut key for that. I'd always just clicked on the little recycle triangle of arrows on that pop-up (the left-hand icon; the one on the right with the 'x' in it just destroys all items off the ground)

One hint for later - zooming out increased the effective size of your recycle "vacuum" cursor, and zooming all the way out to the world view [M] lets you quickly cover a much larger area.

You can still only pick up items within a certain range of the mech; but you can at least scrub that area for litter much faster.

First of all, your backpack should have space, then press the recycling sign below and click the left mouse button to inhale.

Wow, I'll definitely do this the next time I accidentally cause items to scatter around on the ground. Some of those little boxes can be hard to find if they're hiding between buildings, etc. And I've definitely dropped things that I didn't want to just delete from the world.
