Game Stuck on "Almost There." Please help.

The game shut down unexpectedly today and ever since I have been unable to load the game, with loading being extremely slow and finally stalling at the "Almost There" portion of the load cycle.

I've tried running the game as an administrator, running the game from the exe, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but still I am unable to start the game.

I've looked up solutions online, but most of the proposed solutions use jargon that I'm unfamiliar with and so cannot fix my issue. Also, most list uninstalling as the final option. Now that I've done that, I'm at a loss. (I did move my save files before uninstalling and replaced them afterwards. So maybe that's involved.)

Can anyone help me get the game up and running again?

Could you backup your saves and load up the game without them?

I heard someone said something along the lines of emptying a shader cache. You could try that. I would also consider that you might not get to keep your save files. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with proton 6.3 on ubuntu 22.04 linux with the open source radeon drivers. Adding PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the launch options helped resolve this. I didn't run into this problem using proton 6.3 on ubuntu 20.04 linux on an intel gpu.
