That's a shame. This game has more potential than Factorio tbh. Why'd they let such an opportunity slide..?

It is not what they envision for their game. Not every game has to be multiplayer or coop. There is a market for single player games. Personally, I am glad they have taken this route, as I do not play multiplayer games. Keep in mind it takes a lot of coding to make a game multiplayer, and has to be planned out from the beginning, can not just be tacked onto a single player game and have it work smoothly. This is also a very small group of people, 5 to be exact, 2 coders, 2 artists, and a manager producing this game.

The point is, that having a co-op is a feature, not something that is forced upon the users. You don't have to play co-op. It's there for the people who want to play it with friends.
And no, it doesn't take much to code a multiplayer - programming is already online, and since it's Unity, the availability is pretty much plug-and-play.
And yes, it can be very easily smoothed out, it doesn't take much to optimise (MUCH less than the base game already needs).
I believe they just haven't really thought about it.

Maybe you should apply for a job with them.

And spending any time programming coop or multiplayer takes away from the time to build a great single player game, which is what they have stated they want to do. They have thought about it, and said no.

And with that statement, you have just demonstrated that you literally have NO experience with or knowing how programming works, even less so with multi-client parallelism, or even how game development works as a whole.

Even moreso your ability (or lack thereof) to learn from past mistakes - as you clearly haven't experienced or have too quickly forgotten other games with shoehorned and otherwise haphazard and poorly implemented multiplayer functions slapped in after the main game has been developed and a very vocal minority screams 'Gimme!' for a feature they know nothing about.

Most games can be, have been, and will continue to be absolutely amazing, even without multiplayer ever being implemented.

Hopefully one day there is multiplayer, its good solo but id like to have a friend pop in and chill with me in game. Like Factorio and satisfactory its fun solo but its fun having a friend join in and having someone to enjoy it with and have fun with rather than just alone especially a game as big as this one. We can only hope :steamsad:

There are always topics for games where people ask for multiplayer for games that would be stupid wasted time to have multiplayer.
Sadly this game NEEDS multiplayer, this game is so damn good to play with other players it just boggle my mind why they didn't include multiplayer. Same as gold rush. That game would be 500% more fun to play with friends.

So you say they are small team. Well factorio started very poorly with just 2 people and it wasn't selling well, they almost gave away that game for free. But the factory genre took off thanks to them and they skyrocketed and increased their team size a lot and made multiplayer and insane optimizations.

I believe this game can match it and overtake it. I'm sure they will hire talented people because this game must sell like hotcakes just based on user rating.

Needing multiplayer doesn't mean that they can implement it right away. There is still many things to finalize like adding a combat system before they can decide to go ahead and put on a multiplayer feature.

Putting multiplayer on top of an existing single player game will NEVER be optimized. That is bad programming. To do multiplayer correctly takes a total rewrite of the game to handle the multi threads needed, the multiprocessing, the sync issues. They just spent a month rewritting the code to get the copy drag building process to work, along with the ability to use more than one thread on the processor. The developers have stated no to multiplayer. Their vision is a single player game.

The game to run well, must be designed with multiplayer from the beginning, or it will always have problems.

It worked for factorio and you can have 600-800 players there and it started as single player game.

Just because it sells does not mean they will hire more people. All depends on their motivations. Maybe their programming skills are not good enough to implement multiplayer. Only 2 coders on the team. 2 more are artists. One artists can only do 2d graphics, the other does 3d graphics.

Want multiplayer, go and play factorio, which I hate. Leave this single player game, single player.

>"we want multiplayer"
>small team of devs cave and try to add multiplayer to a game that isn't optimized for it
>multiplayer arrives and is a laggy buggy mess
>waluigi "wah"
>devs realize they can't fix this right now and focus on the rest of the game
>waluigi "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah"
>negative reviews start coming in complaining about the multiplayer
>everyone waluigi

Did it? or are your talking out of your ***? FActorio was imagined and designed from the beginning to be multiplayer.
