Dyson Sphere Program, Factorio or Satisfactory?
Hi!
I'm looking for a factory building game and those three caught my attention. If you have already played them, which one do you prefer and why?

One more thing I would like to know, as this game is currently on Early Access it should have some performance/optimization issues so I'll write the same question I asked about Satisfactory:

"...looking into other Early Access games not so graphic demanding such as 'Valheim' and 'Going Medieval', I can see some players complaning on Steam forums about high temperatures and unusual high CPU/GPU usage despite the game settings, so that clearly states that those games still needs some optimization. I would like to know if the same is happening to Dyson Sphere Program at the moment.
If you have similar specs as I do, please let me know how the game runs for you: GTX 1070, R5 3600, 16GB RAM."

I'd be glad if you share your experience about that. Thanks in advance!! :)

DSP feels more engaging. satisfactory enemies feel lazy. factorio is eternal. your PC should be able to handle any of the three. DSP for a 3d factory game feels very well optimized as it is, but currently lacks co-op. factorio while simple in its graphics is still beautiful in its own right and has co-op. satisfactory... it has co-op albiet laggy and messy most of the time, doesnt feel well optimized, but has very well developed landscapes and models.
2 are in early access still, one much longer than the others. do some research watch some videos and decide which bump of coke will hit you the best. cuz all 3 are still fairly addictive.

Indeed this is a question all of us have had. I have all three games, but am new to DSP and I compare them and enjoy them all. But since starting to play this game, I haven't had as much a desire to play the other ones as much. Maybe I will more so when I finish a whole game. I would say you won't go wrong with getting any of them and trying out the others at some point as well. I think these three are the top when it comes to factory games.

Going on my third playthrough now DSP is still a great game but it doesn't feel as broad and deep as factorio. Kind of lost it's magic due to lack of complexity and the formulaic approach it has when you've refined the perfect system on your end.

Satisfactory is the same deal.

I love these 3 games but the original is still the greatest. Factorio is still king in many ways. I can go back to it in 6 months from now and it's still awesome.

I'll say this though. As an approachable, modern, refined experience DSP has a lot to offer. You'd not go wrong picking this up first.

But if you want a rock solid investment and to behold the emperor in all it's glory you owe yourself factorio. Otherwise, buy all 3 :)

As owner of all 3, just an unpopular opinion here:

Factorio: Polished, robust, 2D, Trains are fun, content completed, mods, and gives C&C / C&C: Red Alert vibes.
Satisfactory: Eye-candy, hand crafted maps + fun exploration, relaxed.
DSP: New, massive, good end-game, and gives Supreme Commander vibes.

I enjoy all 3. I don't think you can really pick one over the other.

If You can have just one: Factorio.

Satisfactory is bad. The only good thing about it is 3d graphics. For someone new to factory games definitely DSP but if you are experienced its just preference between factorio and dsp.

Thank you everyone for the answers!! I will watch some DSP and Factorio gameplays and I guess I'll skip Satisfactory for now.

Satisfactory is great too. When we speak of which is better it's like a hairline thin difference. Keep that in mind and gl

Honestly, all 3 are great and worth picking up (eventually).

I can tell you my story. Years and years of hearing how great Factorio is and I picked it up and could never really get into it. I appreciated the game for what it was but it just didn't hook me. Well that changed once DSP launched, and really tells me that it just needs an interesting theme to pull me into an entire genre. Played DSP at launch and absolutely fell in love with it, once I finished the content available at that time I was hungry for more. Of course, I immediately checked out Satisfactory (400-ish hours) and then played Factorio for another 170 hours before the recent DSP update dropped. So now I'm hooked on the entire genre. Not only are the base games excellent but mods just enhance the longevity. Factorio has plenty of complete overhaul mods. Once I'm done with the recent DSP patch I'll be jumping right back to my Factorio playthrough.

Out of bias I will recommend to play DSP first because the space theme is epic, even though it's in early access the game already feels like it has so much content and you can complete it from the beginning to the current end (finishing the dyson sphere) reletively bug free. Satisfactory if you want a 3D game and Factorio if you want a complete experience with an insane mod scene.

I have similar specs to you and all 3 games run great for me.

If you want to build massive factories and deal with interesting logistics and logical puzzles then Factorio is the best. And also has complete overhaul mods that range from useful to utterly insane.

If you like exploring and working out where to put stuff and fiddling around with stuff in 1st person, even though it'll take hours - Satisfactory is what you want. You factory will look very pretties though.

If you want a 3d Factorio with some exploring and much easier logistics (place tower, set up, power, done) but don't mind the fact it's missing a big chunk of stuff then DSP is your thing.

As for the PC needed to run it:
  • Factorio will run on almost anything, though super massive factories require better CPU's and more RAM.
  • DSP interestingly will work well on older CPU's and 8GB of RAM as long as you have a more modern GPU to do the heavy lifting.
  • Satisfactory is a massive resource hog once you start really building massive amounts of stuff. They've optimised it somewhat, but haven't checked yet if that's improved things.

For reference I play on an ancient system with parts from 2008, Xeon E5440 OC@3.4Ghz, ASUS P45 socket 775 motherboard, 8GB DDR2 RAM and a RX 570 4GB I scored for NZ$228 in 2019. I have a nice shiney new Ryzen 7 3700X though, just need to buy everything else ;-;

The game is in a very good state right now. It is well optimized and does not feel like an early access at all. I would treat it as a complete game.

Are you interested in space exploration? Does building a galaxy scale factory utilizing multiple solar system, planets and stars sounds cool? Do you want to build your very own fckng megastructure? This is what this game is about, automating and building a freaking Dyson sphere. Starting from manually mining iron and copper in the very beginning.

In my opinion, DSP over satisfactory because its easier to build with top down view. I can think/plan better when i can see the bigger picture, whereas i struggled in satisfactory with 1st person view.

Its definitely not as engaging due to the fact that resources never run out. But I personally don't think its bad because all the little quirks of the game make an enjoyable experience.

Play all 3 in due time.
The order i played them in:
1.Factorio
2.Dyson sphere program
3.Satisfactory

Satisfactory:
At first satisfactory would never be able to achieve what factorio does.
And while that is partially true the exploration of maps is astunning!
Also the 3d and vertical construction makes it very unique in it's own way.
I am playing this now and did not yet finish (or unlock/build) everything.

Dyson sphere program:
It gives you a very satisfied feeling. The mech is a very fun way to get around and the game is already very complete (haven't played with last update yet as i'm diggin into satisfactory now). The fun thing is, start this one now, then play another and after that this game will have got tons of updates (Combat!) wich will not give you 3 games to play but 4!
The late game of this game feels like it is still needing further development tough.

Factorio:
The original, the best.
It will take a looong time before any other game will achieve what factorio gives.
On the other hand you have to like the 2d graphics in a game.
If you don't mind this then i suggest you start with this one.
I can imagine playing DSP or SF first, factorio might feel graphicly a setback without being able to discover all the possabilities with full joy because of this.

Factorio is the best experience. It's the oldest and best polished game. Your limited space requires thought for every building placement, and unless you turn off the attacking AI, you will be punished for poor layouts or slow progression. Although unlikely on the default settings, a disastrous collapse is possible, but this makes it all extremely satisfying when you build something that works well.

Satisfactory is definitely the most casual of the three, because there is no pressure of any sort on your progression. It's currently incomplete and not well polished, but there is plenty to do. Turning the world from wilderness to ecumenopolis is as satisfying as the name makes you expect, and can keep your attention for a few thousand hours. It does require a beast of a PC to play smoothly to that conclusion, though.

I can't comment on DSP, as I have barely started my game there.

Absent from your list is Fortresscraft Evolved. It's much older than Factorio by its Steam release date, but Factorio did begin development slightly earlier. It has tower defense, limited resource nodes and terrain deforming digging in a voxel world. I put quite a few hours into it, despite at the time it being clunky and uncomfortable to play. It's worth checking out at the least. I have not played it in years, and it has changed a lot since I last played.
