Dismantling a Planet.
Is it possible to bassically dismantle a planet, for its resources to build Dyson Spheres?
Seeing as that is the real concept behind the Dyson sphere, needing a whole solar system in materials to build one.

No, you can not use planets as building materials. Only the ressource deposits you find on the planets.

Thats sad, seeing as the original concept is that, dismantle all the planets to build Dyson Spheres, with Matter to Matter converts, where you bassically take one matter, and convert it to another more useful for building.

That is exactly what mining is. Unfortunately not all of the materials of the planet are suitable for construction of a Dyson Sphere so there will remain some planet behind.

Thats where the Matter to Matter conversion comes in, where some stuff that is not suitable is then converted to stuff that Is suitable, bassically taken apart on the atomic level and rearranged.

Well, realistically planets should have UNGODLY amount of stone.

And what if you can convert that stone atom by atom into say, metal, gold, or anything else you need through matter conversion. By the time this game takes place, that should be pretty trivial to do.

Yes, but what kinds of stone?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rock_types#:~:text=There%20are%20three%20major%20types,metamorphic%20rock%2C%20and%20sedimentary%20rock.

Not all are good for construction. The game kind of abstracts that part out.

Yes, but said matter to matter conversion takes a lot of energy. Where would we get that energy? Maybe a Dyson Sphere of some sort?

Partially constructed Dyson Sphere should be enough already.
Like say, the halfway point give or take you can start to dissasemble the planets.

If you're that far into it, why even bother at that point though? By the time you have that much energy, you've got the resources to complete. There's no point in deconstructing the planet. It's a waste of energy. Just finish it and move on.

As much as I'm enjoying this game, I was disappointed to find that the planets are left intact. I don't have the chops to do the math, but I know that a true Dyson Sphere would require literally unimaginable amounts of matter. Even something like a Ringworld would be mind boggling in scope.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are already considering the idea but this game is made by a small team and it takes resources to implement things like this so I think they are focused on getting automation out first before flashier things like blowing up planets but I do agree that it would be satisfying.

Actually a Dyson sphere would take SEVERAL solar systems of materials! The surface area of these things is beyond staggering! I don't have my slide-rule handy, what would a sphere of 2 au have for surface area? (au=distance between earth and the sun, approx. 93 M miles)

The surface area of a sphere the size of earth's orbit would be on the order of 108,685,409,760,000,000 square miles TIMES the thickness you desire it to be.

You wouldn't build it out that far though. The radius of a Dyson Sphere would be as far out as how much heat the material you are using can withstand per sq meter. The thinkness would depend on the cooling system and the armor to protect from asteroids and other debris.

Any farther out, would just mean you are wasting material, since you are already getting 100% of the solar power from that star.

are we talking about the game DSP this forum is based on, or possible "if" scenarios for real world dyson sphere that we will never live to see?

as far as the game, i think it's balanced in that i had to build/mine on about 6 or 7 other planets in my in-game galaxy to complete my dyson sphere on my home star.
That's what we need - the Philosopher's Stone! Ask Isaac Newton about that. :) Now just exactly where did Solomon hide that thing?
