When And Why Do You Move Your Base?
I see that a lot of players move bases from the starter planet to somewhere else. Why are they doing it?
It seems to me that I can keep building on my starter planet and I have a ton of resources from the starter system. When I lack resources I can just warp it from other systems. It looks like warper production should not be an issue.

When I import more from other system I might as well move there and import from original one. Cuts down on time and costs (warpers/green cubes). If you scaled so far away that you do not care about those things than you are in luck cause you can do whatever you wish. Sadly I think most players are not in that state most of the time.

Why? It is because they run a Bus system where they make everything of a component in one spot, and everything requiring said components pulling off the bus, then putting back on what it produces.

When? Probably as soon as they can. I personally run a decentralized factory production blocks so I just bring in raw resources and pump out a final product which get shipped to the mall. No need to move anything that way.

Each product is only needed there. Else it is all made on site. If a new product will need iron ore, then I will smelt that ore and feed direct to assembler, no transporting to a main bus.

I've decided to leave my starter world running. It has blue, red, yellow and purple science running smoothly with at least 1.67 cubes per second. I've started building green science on a suitable distant world, from which I will ship the cubes back to starter world to add to the research tower there. In fact I've already set it up to receive the cubes, so I shouldn't have to go back there until white cubes.

Also it turns out the star beside the system where I am making green science is a type O with a tidally locked planet, so that system should make a nice place to start my Dyson Sphere! Pretty excited.

One reason I can think is to be in a system where there is access to more materials. However, with the logistics system, I'm happy to stay on my starter planet. I've already got it built up, and everything is at full production. I have other facilities set up in a couple different systems to provide things I need to make life easier. Once logistics is set up, it's pretty smooth sailing.

Another reason may be to be near a brighter star. Maybe they provide more power when launching sails or building a dyson sphere. My starter system sun is just fine.

Or maybe they want to be near a neutron star or black hole for quicker access to certain resources. It's about a 10 minute round trip for my vessels to bring in cargo. Which is fine for my set up.

The last thing I can think of is someone may want to just start over. But not start over the game. So they pack up several supplies and head to a new system for a fresh start, while keeping all their tech upgrades.

I destroyed my entire old base after researching interstellar logistics stations. I did it for performance reasons, as I'm sure leaving that thing running in the background isn't exactly efficient. Interstellar logistics stations are a bit OP.

When you finish a sphere.
Setting up a new base around an O type with happy amounts of resources and five planets to build on

Hauling ore with warpers is not very efficient. I set up a rocket factory in a system with abundant resources three jumps away. I only ship the rockets.

That is why I dont like Bus setups. Too interdependent and need to use far more high speed transport lines and components. Decentralized blocks means everything is self sustaining, only have to transport the final product.

I started with the bus setup too, Now I have everything decentralized in small blocks with logistics drones. Logistics towers are just too good. :D
Really wasted too much time setting up the bus when I just needed to rush to yellow tech and get logistic stations ASAP.

I like the idea of warping the rockets back. Then I can keep building in the initial system until I build a sphere. Just expensive rocket production can be done elsewhere.

I chose not to, I keep shipping stuff back to my mega factory, and my infinite research into logistic speeds seems to keep the growing distance in check.

Because I wanted to build my Dyson Sphere around a better looking star.

Seriously.

More people will start moving their home base when blueprints get figured out. This is totally the appeal of importing everything to your starter world. If we had blueprints, building your main factory elsewhere isn't that tedious anymore.

That makes sense. It takes time to rebuild everything in a new system. Would be nice to copy and paste smaller factories.

I still use main planet, but I outsource some part of factory to other planet has some part production become very big. Like for produce quantum processor and use full blue belt, I need to place 240 tier 3 assembler.

I think there are so many different reasons to do it or not. I am a new player and saw that i didnt need to move my home world, but wanted to with all the new tech i unlocked and i got to choose the location for location, resources, centrality, places/space to build and to increase efficiency because my original was a functional mess. I also moved because i wanted to and just to see if i could do it. I dont really use blueprints so wish me luck.
