Presumably the old system (and everything in it) would be deleted. Otherwise, imagine the potential size of the save files.
I'm not even at the end-game and this sounds good to me!
Great idea. Or you get to keep what's in your current inventory but obviously can't go back for more.
They should add Wormholes though, so you jump into one and it drops randomly in some other part of the galaxy. Or, it would be fun if you could build your own from raw materials, and then choose a destination. It would make traveling from one point to another better than just straight warp, as it wouldn't use fuel.
You would just need some kind of station outside of it, feeding the wormhole exotic matter to keep it from closing
