Optimal sphere radius?
Hello. Is there any optimal radius? E.G. is big radius better in anything than small one or vice versa?

Big takes (much) more resources than small, but power generated per resource is the same. Most important part is really that it looks nice.

Does it mean the bigger will be able to produce more resouces?

bigger gives more power, but cost much more to build.

Thank You! :)

You are welcome!

i kinda don't get it. isn't the purpose of a dyson sphere to capture all energy from the star? where does the additional energy of a bigger sphere come from?

You can fit more satellites in the single band if it has larger radius.

@celerypie: If you think of it where 1 panel has a limit to how much it can collect, and then it has to vent out the rest of the energy. Hopefully they have a bell-curve for this where there is an optimal distance, but I haven't gotten there yet.

So this would mean that at the moment bigger is better because you get a higher maximum output and you get further with the same sphere angle upgrade level.
Unless you just want a sphere done of course

Be carefull tho, if you go super big your frames will drop like crazy in that system. Have a sphere around a blue giant and the default one is so big that I drop down to aroun 18 fps when I enter that system.
Looks pretty cool tho and is close to 50 GW power. Still only bout 10% build tho...

thanks for the warning, sounds like a good system to set up photon export and never go there again.

Well, right now I keep over 100fps. But my PC seems to be loud. Probably will set the FPS limiter to somewhere around 30-60.

make smallest possible for performance reasons, same with solar sail orbits

yes, "IRL" size of sphere should have REVERSE effect on output, actually smaller sphere should both be "cheaper" and give more power per resource, but due to extreme heat and gravity of star, should be harder to make.

You are correct in your logic. Assuming both dyson spheres have the same "100% coverage", there would be no solar energy collection benefit to a larger sphere. The amount of energy in the game is magically increased .

There would. Because the solar collector might be too small to be able to collect all energy. Just the generation will be much smaller than power produced by sun.
