Space Flight Bugged?
This keeps happening to me: I'm flying between two planets like normal then for some reason the mech thing you fly around in becomes mostly unresponsive. I cant steer properly and wind up zipping by my destination because I cant correct course to land. I have plenty of power. Why does this happen?

Okay so the only way I am able to change direction is by holding down my middle mouse button while looking past the head of the mech thing at the feetand holding W. The it turns very slowly.

Would love to know what I did to trigger this and how to get out of it.

If you press tab you unlock the mouse from the character so you can click on menus, its not that?
ColeEyre Feb 2, 2021 @ 5:21pm
It's not that. Pressing tab to make the cursor appear to access menus has no affect on this, nor does pressing tab to make the cursor disappear.

I'm not sure how you're having trouble. I'll miss some controls here, but here are the basics:

Once you leave orbit (1000+ m), these all use mech power:
'W' Fly in the direction of your mouse reticle
'S' Decrease speed
'A' and 'D' Turn left and right
'Shift' Increase speed

There are a couple other mouse controls, but anyway, those are the basics. I have never had my mech unresponsive unless 'Tab' was pressed to use the mouse for other actions. So it's very unclear what problem you're experiencing. Since my first flight, I've never overflown a planet. My current sail speed is only up to 2000 m/s. The only other thing I can think of is your mech ran out of energy and has to recharge before you can use controls again.

I'm not sure either but, I saw someone streaming the game earlier today have the same problem: flying through space between two planets with no issues at all with the controls. We're able to move around, brake, accelerate, control pitch and yaw no problem.

Then something happens and all of those controls - all of the controls you described - stop working.

Both me and whoever I saw streaming the game today had plenty of power, it had nothing to do with tabbing to access the cursor, nothing worked. The person I saw streaming today loaded a save to get out of it. I've learned that if I tilt the camera aft and hold W I can very slowly get the mech to turn and that's usually enough to hit a planet.

It doesn't happen all the time. It was happening 5% - 10% of the time when I went into space. It didn't happen at all today.

As you say, it is very unclear what the problem is but at least I now know I'm not the only one experiencing it.

No this is just bad game mechanics and it is very frustrating. When you run out of electrical energy you can no longer steer the mech and then you miss planets and fly passed for many astronomical units until you either get enough power back to turn around, or give up and go back to a previous save. I get that we want to be realistic with things because in real life if you lose power then yes you lose control also, but at least let the mech charge back quickly or something. This part to me ruins the game a bit.

You ran out of power. Just press "c" and refill. All is good. Its not bad game mechanics, just operator error, but you will learn. Happened to me too at the beginning.

Blame the Player, not the programmer. Funny, how this is going further and further.

Pressing 'c' did nothing. Also, as per my previous message, I was absolutely NOT out of power when I experienced this. It was enough of an issue, even after reinstalling, that i just stopped playing the game. Given it wasn't a super wide spread issue, I figured it was probably something caused by my system - maybe a hardware or driver issue or gremlins - and maybe would go away over time as the game is patched.

Space mechanics are pretty janky. The big hazard is getting stuck in orbit, as the game considers orbital paths a "constant thrust" and will rapidly drain your energy.

Don't leave your planet on an empty stomach. Always max out your fuel supply. Energetic graphite is cheap and the production can be set up in a minute. Every starter world has some coal to set up a fuel depot.

Start flying, point the mouse to the sky, and hold (W, space) until you break orbit. General space mechanics consist of pointing at your target with the mouse and holding (W), or holding (S) to stop. When you get comfortable, start boosting with (Shift) but keep some pocket energy in reserve. Aim ahead of planets slightly for the best results. To land, point at the surface and hold (W). Slam into the pavement like a superhero.

He has a point to this and i think i know what is wrong. The 'W' to move forwards does get stuck causing the mech to keep moving even after you have released the button(when on the ground). So i can imagine that if this is happening in space, you are already in acceleration mode which means that the mach will not response to the command given to turn or stop until u hit "W" several times in order to get back in control. He can have full power or an empty tank and this still can happen.

For me, this only happens on the ground. But who knows, it could be related to something else. Just thinking about what it could be cause this may not be the solution to his question.

Note: When i say u have to HIT "W" several times, you have too because that is how i have to get my controls back as well and this is the only game that it happens on for me.

i also already had the issue, very annoying.
Bobucles Sep 5, 2021 @ 8:11am
oh, that is an unusual issue. Unfortunately user input jank can be caused by many things. It could be the program suddenly losing focus (in which case a mouse click will restore focus). It could be issues with bad keyboard/software causing jank to happen, It could be a lag spike in game which drops user inputs. It could also be one of Window's accessibility features kicking in, such as sticky keys.

I think some of the issues are due to the Unity Game Engine this game uses. I find I have to hold the Control key a bit longer before clicking on stuff in the inventory to move it. If done too fast sometimes the entire contents of my inventory are moved to a storage box instead of just the stack of items that I want to move.

The mouse clicking to move the mech helps a lil bit by stopping it in it tracks but while it wants to go to the spot you targeted, it doesnt because it still trying to go forward (on ground).

Window's accessibility is a feature(Sticky keys)? WHY!!!!!! lol they are doing too much now: gotta look into this and must agree that when the game goes into auto save, it does cause a lil lag which over time gets worse or if you cross by a planet thats fully deck out maybe a nightmare.
