Picture freezing but the game progresses in the background
This has happened to me on several occations, often 10-20 times a day now. The picture freezes to one static frame, but the game continues in the background. I can hear every sound, when i quit the game and log back in - the factory has produced more materials. I'm noticing a dip and/or a spike in GPU power through task manager when this happens, and I'm wondering what it could mean?

Is this a known issue? Can my hardware be defective?

My specs:
i9 9900k (not overclocked)
RTX 2070 (Core clock +75, Mem clock +600, Power Limit 125%, Temp limit 88C)
16GB DDR4 3000mhz ram
Game installed on M2.SSD

I'm currently running all the latest drivers/updates for my GPU and Windows.

Note! Currently, i have no problems with AAA games on my current specs, but its worth noting I've had problems in the game "UBOAT" with lots of crashes as well. I have been reassured by the community for UBOAT that its merely problem with the games engine, unity, rather than my setup - but its worth noting nonetheless.

Looking forward to a reply!

Your system should handle the game fine. I had to use GEforce now to play at normal speeds because I was experiencing framerate issues, but I have a terrible graphics card.

it could possibly be the monitor itself. I know I've had a tv that would do stuff like that. Game would still be running but the tv would be stuck on one frame. Could even hear walking and jumping to verify. Although that being said it could be something on the games end too. I've had at least one time I got up to use the bathroom and came back to a completely black screen. But only ever happened for this game, so maybe there's some kinda graphical memory leak somewhere too.

I get the same issue as OP from time to time (maybe every few days)--running an older gen system (see specs below) and there were some thread suggesting issues with Pascal based GPUs (10xx gen GPUs). This is the first time seeing someone mention this with a RTX GPU. I'm suspecting a memory leak (either system RAM or VRAM) locking up the system because I see no unusual power spikes or GPU temp issues before lockup when looking at system logs. In my case I have to hard shutdown and reboot to get things back so I have set my autosave to 5 minutes to not lose progress,

Interesting mention of possible monitor issue--next time it happens I may try resetting my monitor and see if game responds.

System specs:
i7 6850k (stock clocks)
GTX Titan X (Pascal) (Power limit 120%, otherwise stock clocks)
64 GB DDR4 3000 MHz RAM (manual overclock in BIOS)
1000 W Power supply
Game running off 7200 RPM HDD
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Game set to run locked at 60 FPS, typical GPU parameters 65-70 C, ~170-200 W power draw. CPU temp 30-33 C.

I had the exact same problem and found a source elsewhere that recommended lowering the FPS on my GTX series. (In the NVIDIA software go to Manage 3D Settings --> Program Settings tab, select Dyson Sphere Program and change the max FPS to 30.) Someone here suggested I could have tried doing the same in the game settings. (Oops, I didn't notice that option!)

I'm not sure about the latter, but the former solved my problem.

3-Year-Old Build:
Intel i7 8700 4.7GHz
32 GB Ram DDR4
ASUS GTX 1080 8G ROG
1TB M.2 SSD with about 65% free space

I am having this same issue, has gotten much worse as progress in the game goes on.
I can force the video to refresh and start working again by opening task manager, finding DTS Game (or whatever its called) and forcing it to minimize. Then you click the game it reopens and video is no longer locked up.

Issue is pretty frustrating now. Did not have this when I first played this game but when I came back I have it now. Also I have an upgraded computer since then.
Specs:
AMD 5900x
RX 6900 XT
32GB RAM 3200hz
ultra-wide 1440p
