With Win10 I have no hands on experience with the feature but it does exist:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/multiple-desktops-in-windows-10-36f52e38-5b4a-557b-2ff9-e1a60c976434
That might be worthwile to explore.
Sorry, I should've been more precise. Ubuntu (which is a different operating system from Win10) has a multiple desktop feature. It lets you use up to 16 (or so) desktops on a single screen by cycling through them via hotkeys. A similar feature exists in Win10 but I never tried it (link above). Might be worth a try for you to see if it fits your needs. Though I too think you'll be fine just setting the game to windowed mode.
I tried window mode, sadly it doesn't decrease the performance needed, I was in hope running the game in Background may reduce the render effort and therefor GPU Usage, but that's not the case.
Maybe it's something that has to come from the game itself, so probably Ubuntu won't solve this, too?
Yeah, that won't work the way you want it to. I suppose mods or parking Icarus in an empty system could help. Maybe open some menu like the sphere editor and then switch the game into the background?
Yep something like that I guess, thanks :)
But I fear it still won't be enough to play Far Cry 5 on Ultra while DSP is running ^^
Looks like that's the prive we have to pay for this beautiful looking game.
Letting Factorio run in Background was most the time fine, only if you went crazy big with a Megafactory, it was impossible to do anything else, too.
But well, Factorio is 99% polished, DSP is not, so let's see what further optimization in DSP will earn us additional fps!
Makes sense to leave the major optimizations until feature completion. Fingers crossed :)
I feel you. Though autosave can be turned off in settings->gameplay and then setting the autosave interval slider to the very left :)
No amount of minimizing or desktop switching will change this. Only quitting the game will help.
You can create mutiple desktop with win+tab on windows 10. But i don't know if it's more efficient than running in background.
