SF is a very different animal from Tekken. You just need to get used to it. Each character has their own Character Guide tutorial in Training as well as their own Combo Trials.

Pick one thing at a time you want to learn or practice and spend some time on just that against a standing dummy or a CPU. Adjust the CPU’s difficulty to something that lets you comfortably practice.

Keep doing that and you’ll get the hang of things quickly. Experiment with combos until you settle on one or two that does decent damage and that you feel confident you can pull off consistently. This is a good starting point.

Try focusing on fundamentals. I haven't played Tekken, so I don't know how much translates over, but in training mode there's a tab called "Simple Settings" that let's you easily choose training options to practice certain things. At low ranks def check out the Anti-Air and Drive Impact Defense ones. People love jumping and Drive Impacting at low ranks.

Also notice what control scheme your opponent is on. If they're modern don't jump too much. I will say it will be quite frustrating if you're on classic trying to do combos yourself and dropping them, or dropping motion inputs, for sure, but you got this.

In the annoying situations where you encounter people that feel like they're doing gimmicky stuff, like people who jump back just be patient. Allow them to put themselves in the corner.
Go through the tutorials first

The road to mastery is paved with a thousand Ls, keep an eye on your own mistakes and figure out what you can do to overcome that mistake. Studying your replays can help with that. Especially now that you can take control of the replay to try something else that you got hit by. Training Mode also has various "Simple training" scenarios that let you practice against concepts like jump ins and Drive impacts in more controlled environments.

My advice is to not get too hung up on combos. They're the sexy part of fighting games but they aren't what will carry you when you're first learning.

Keep your combos simple - 3-4 hits tops, and make sure you can land them.

Then focus on spacing, blocking and understanding when not to press buttons. These are some of thr hardest things for beginners and even though you will always struggle with them being aware of their significance will pay off thr most early on.

There are several guides out there that say you really don't need combos until you're past Gold. And I wouldn't disagree. Clean whiff punishes, anti-airs and half decent defence will get you there.
So, grabs are in fact unreactable. You break them on prediction later, when you start to feel out how your opponent plays. Since you're just starting out, don't worry about them much.

Practice. Be consistent about it too. Play casuals so you can fight without worrying about points. Stick to the newbie servers until you can win better than 50%. Wins aren’t going to handed to you (not that I’m assuming that’s what you’re expecting).
