As a Smash Ultimate player..
I'm trying to get into another fighting game. I heard SF6 is very noob friendly? I'm finding most fighting games too difficult to get into but I'd really like to try. I heard about this games' modern/classic controls. Would I be missing out if I only relied solely on modern controls?

I main Bowser in Ult so I'm looking for a similar archtype. I tend to not like super complicated combos and like to get most of my kills from stray hits and getting off grabs. I was told Marissa is a stray hit character or I may like Honda or Zangief. I might be willing to learn SF over something like the Mortal Kombat games as SF seems way easier in my opinion.

there's going to be a learning curve from smash to any traditional fighter

but since sf6 is undoubtedly the most popular fighting game now, and also new, there's not much other fighters better to try to learn and get into imo

modern is fine, though I'd also try classic to see which you prefer more

There are several Smash pros and content creators at least trying out SF6 if you'd like to watch that.

Smash doesn't translate smoothly over to traditional FGs but good fundamentals always carry over. I'll always recommend classic over modern but feel free to try both

As for a character, again, Smash won't translate smoothly over to a traditional FG but a Bowser player might be interested in Marisa

this is not super smash, i too play smash bros and this is not the same, pick any character, focus on it, play classic control, modern you will like it at first but your gonna miss the fun of learning the right input to make special attack,do the your character guide + challenge, learn is fighting style, then learn other character and how to counter it by playing against them.

Your first mistake here is thinking that most fighting games are too difficult to get into. They're not. As long as you like the game, and find a character you gel with, it's really not hard to get "into" the game. You won't be stomping people left and right, mind you, but you can do fine.

That being said, yeah, SF6 is pretty beginner friendly. It's got a ton of pretty good tutorials to teach you the basics of 2d fighters, it's got character specific tutorials to show you how exactly to use a character's moves, it's got combo trials to give you a basic picture of the sorts of things you can do with a character, it's even got tools to let you see frame data and cancel timings so you can start putting your own combos together.

As far as modern controls go, I personally don't like them since you lose a bunch of your normal buttons, but it does auto combos for you and gives you access to 1 button supers. If that's a trade off you feel is worthwhile, then go for it, why not? There are people using modern at pretty much all ranked brackets so it's pretty clearly viable.

its like homeworks, you need to play over and over to learn the game

I might try to bite the bullet and just learn old controls then. Honestly SF6 still sounds way easier in execution to me than melee ever did.

If you can learn Melee's execution, there are a ton of FGs that are going to be easier in comparison. Just give it time and you'll be fine

I never played melee competitively so I don't know, but sure man, give classic a shot. If you don't like it, try modern. Don't let other people's preferences push you one way or the other. Do whatever feels best for you.

Ken could be a good choice too no?

For beginner characters, the shotos, Luke, and Guile are all good choices to start with and are good for learning the game. Imo Marisa, Honda, and Lily are also low enough in execution that they are relatively easy to learn too. The rest of the characters may depend on you and what you're looking for in a character

lol @ Leffen raging about stuff like DI
Go to the character select screen, it will tell you each character's difficulty levels, i recommend Luke he is friendly with modern controls or not. He has pretty easy target combo's. go to practice, watch the tutorials. watch the character tutorials. Watch replays of people using which ever Character you decide. learn how to cancel into special moves and play ranked, it will place you with players your skill level.
